“Iris…” His voice came out rough and strained, his chest rising and falling heavily. “I never imagined you felt that way. Thank you… for forgiving him. And thank you for forgiving me.”
Pressed against him, Iris could barely catch her breath—but she could feel the steady, heavy drum of his heartbeat clearly against her own.
She patted his back softly and murmured, “You didn’t do anything wrong.”
Julian eased his hold, cradling her face between his hands. His thumbs brushed lightly over the curve of her cheeks, his gaze tender and full of emotion.
Sunlight poured through the car window, spilling across her features and tracing a gentle glow around her.
He looked into her clear eyes and said, low and steady, “I did plenty wrong. I put you through too much. Looking back now… I wish I could go back and punch my younger self for you.”
Iris couldn’t help laughing at how serious he sounded. The corners of her eyes lifted into soft crescents. “We’ve both never been great with words. Kept too much bottled up–ended up misunderstanding each other. From now on… let’s not hide things, okay?”
Julian kissed her forehead. “Okay. No matter what happens, we talk it out. Say what’s on our minds.”
“Come on,” she said lightly. “Let’s go get our names changed.”
He released her, slipping back into his daily ritual. “After we do… will you marry me?”
Iris playfully bumped his shoulder with her fist. “Do you have to ask every single day?”
Julian let out a soft, fond sigh. “Can’t help it. The thought of marrying you just gets stronger.”
Iris officially became Iris Whitmore, entered into the Whitmore family records. Harper officially became Harper Everhart, now part of the Everhart family registry.
By the time everything was finalized, it was already past noon.
They headed to a cozy bistro for lunch. With the whole afternoon ahead, they picked up movie tickets and strolled through the mall hand in hand, just like any couple deeply in love, before making their way to the theater.

They chose a domestic animated feature–full of energy and vibrant scenes.
At one point, Julian took advantage of the darkened theater to steal a kiss. It caught Iris completely off guard, leaving her flustered and warm–cheeked.
The theater was nearly full, and he’d just-
She pushed him back gently, whispering, “What are you doing? Everyone’s around… there’s even a kid right in front of us. Have some shame.”
Julian laced his fingers through hers, leaning in until his breath brushed her ear. “No one can
see.”
“We could’ve waited till we got home,” she mumbled, though her tone was teasing.
“It’s not the same.”
“How?”
There was a touch of nostalgia in his voice. “This was something I dreamed about when I was younger. I imagined it over and over. Never got the chance back then. Now I do… and I wanted to try it. Make up for what I missed.”
The shifting light from the screen played across Julian’s handsome face. Iris watched his earnest expression, warmth blooming quietly inside her.
It was a pity she hadn’t known him when they were young. But she had been there—in his memories—through all those years.
“So… back in high school, you already wanted to watch a movie with me?” Iris kept her voice low.
Julian gently stroked the back of her hand with his thumb. His eyes stayed on the screen, but a faint smile touched his lips. “More than just watching a movie.”
Iris smiled shyly, settling back into her seat as they continued watching, their hands still entwined.
The movie let out in the mid–afternoon.
As they stepped out of the theater, Julian’s phone buzzed–Mason was calling, asking if he wanted to hang out.
Julian declined right away.
But Mason persisted, complaining that it had been too long, joking that Julian had forgotten all about his friends, his tone full of playful drama.

Finally, Julian relented. “I’m on a date with Iris.”
Mason perked up instantly. “Then bring her along! We haven’t seen her in ages.”
Julian glanced at Iris.
She nodded–it was fine to join.
