Simon was grinning from ear to ear. He stared at Daniel, sizing him up and down nonstop, and kept firing off questions. “Are you my daughter’s boyfriend?
“Are you really gonna pay off my gambling debts?
“What do you do for work?”
Daniel ignored him completely.
The guy with the full–sleeve tattoo slammed an IOU note down on the table. “The principal is 250 thousand dollars, plus 170 thousand dollars in interest. You gonna pay it all at once, or in installments?”
Simon rubbed his hands together excitedly. “My daughter’s boyfriend looks super rich. We’ll pay it all in one go-”
The tattooed man snapped at him sharply, “Shut your mouth. Who asked you to talk?”
Simon clamped his mouth shut, looking scared.
Daniel picked up the IOU, glanced over it a few times, then tossed it back on the table. “If you don’t get the money back from these debts, what will you do?”
The tattooed man pointed straight at Simon. “We’d break his arms and legs and cut out his tongue. Make him wish he was dead.”
Daniel let out a quiet chuckle. “That works perfectly for us.”
Simon froze in terror the second he heard that.
Zoe was totally stunned too.
What does he mean?
But she remembered what Daniel had told her beforehand. No matter what happened, don’t feel sorry for her dad and don’t step in. He’d promised her dad wouldn’t die. He’d get hurt a little, but this would finally get him off her back.
She trusted him, so she just sat quietly and waited for him to handle the situation.
The tattooed man got furious. “What the hell do you mean?”

Daniel crossed his legs, wearing a cocky grin. “I don’t believe you’ve got the guts to lay a hand on him. So we’re not paying up.”
One of the gangsters pulled out an iron pipe, banged it hard against the coffee table, and pointed it right at Daniel. “You messing with our boss?”
Zoe nervously swallowed hard.
Daniel stayed calm. He reached out and gently pushed the pipe, redirecting it toward Simon. “I don’t think you dare hurt him, so we’re not paying. If he actually gets hurt, we might feel bad for him and pay the money just to spare him.”
The tattooed man shot to his feet at once, yelling at his men, “Beat him up!”
Simon turned deathly pale and scrambled around in panic.
Zoe shrank back into the corner, terrified.
Several gangsters swarmed over and started smashing Simon’s limbs and body with the iron pipes.
Simon screamed in agony, begging for help.
Daniel sat there without moving an inch. He pulled out 20 thousand in cash from his pocket and flicked the banknotes.
“Here. We’ll pay in installments.”
The tattooed man waved his hand, and his men stopped beating Simon.
Zoe covered her mouth, watching her dad twist around on the floor in agony with broken limbs. Then she glanced at Daniel, who looked laid–back and cold. She was seized by fear and had no idea what to do.
She was scared her dad would get beaten to death, but it seemed like he was only badly hurt, not dying.
The tattooed man grabbed the cash and frowned. “Only 20 thousand?”
Daniel smiled faintly. “Take it easy. We’ll pay bit by bit.”
“When’s the next payment?” the tattooed man asked angrily.
Daniel stood up, a cold, wicked smirk on his face. “Every single time he gets beaten, we’ll pay a portion of the interest. Remember this–if you hurt his insides or threaten his life, we won’t

pay a single cent. And we’ll hold you accountable.”
The tattooed man and his guys burst out laughing after hearing that.
They’d never seen such a weird request before.

They got to beat the guy for fun and still collect interest payments. It couldn’t get any better.
The tattooed man clapped Daniel on the shoulder. “You’re one interesting dude. I’m an expert at breaking people’s arms and legs. I get it–one beating, one interest payment.”
With that, he led his gangsters out of the room.
Simon lay trembling in the corner, moaning in pain.
Daniel walked over, crouched down beside him, and pulled out his phone to call an ambulance.
Simon stared at Daniel in pure terror, then glared at Zoe and shouted, “What kind of boyfriend did you get? How could you let him hurt your own dad?”
Zoe finally understood everything. She held back her pain and looked calmly at her father.
If she didn’t toughen up, she and her mom would never escape this endless mess.
Daniel gently grabbed Simon’s hand.
