Zoe took the cup with both hands. “Thank you, Mr. Cross.”
“Zoe…” His voice was incredibly soft.

“Huh?” Zoe was caught off guard. Her cheeks flushed pink, and she grew stiff and nervous.
Every employee in the office had their eyes on her.
Daniel was blatantly favoring her, leaving her not knowing what to do with herself.
“If anyone dares to bully you, even if it just makes you feel slightly upset, come find me in my office upstairs.” Daniel’s gaze shifted toward Yvonne, and his tone turned cold and sharp. “I’ll fire them on the spot.”
Yvonne gripped her documents tightly, grinding her back teeth. Her face turned dark, yet she forced a stiff, fake smile. “Mr. Cross, it feels like you’re targeting me specifically.”
Daniel didn’t hold back at all, his tone cold. “That’s because I am.”
Those words completely broke Yvonne’s composure.
She grabbed her paperwork angrily, shot Zoe a sharp glare, and stormed out of the office.
There was no doubt about it–Zoe had officially made Yvonne her enemy.
An uneasy feeling lingered in Zoe’s chest, but with Daniel protecting her, the situation did not feel all that bad.
She looked up at him and whispered softly, “Thank you.”
Daniel smiled faintly. He placed both palms flat on her desk, leaned down, and lowered his voice. “It’s your first day here. Aren’t you supposed to treat everyone to dinner?”
Zoe froze in shock.
The other employees were equally stunned.
Their elusive big boss never joined staff gatherings. Yet today, he was personally telling a new hire to treat them out?
No one knew what to think.

Zoe was confused. Daniel knew exactly how tight her finances were, and this dinner would cost nearly half her monthly salary with so many people coming.
Still, she could not reject her boss. She stood up awkwardly. “Everyone, I’m treating you all to dinner after work. You guys pick the spot.”
The whole office erupted in cheers. Everyone clapped and thanked her excitedly.
Daniel wore a satisfied smile and murmured quietly, “Wait for me after work. I’m coming with you.”
Zoe nodded with a shy, awkward smile.
The smiles on the other employees‘ faces froze instantly.
The big boss is tagging along too?
The fun is definitely going to be ruined.
After Daniel left the office, a crowd of coworkers swarmed around Zoe, bombarding her with questions about her relationship with him.
Having no other choice, she told them they were just friends. She explained that her best friend was married to Daniel’s friend, so they had known each other for years.
It was obvious no one fully believed her vague explanation.
At half–past five, Zoe got off work on time. She walked out of the company building with her colleagues and spotted Daniel waiting for her.
He had told her to wait for him, yet he was the one standing there first.
Zoe and a few coworkers without cars got into Daniel’s car.
With three colleagues squeezed in the backseat, they didn’t talk. The atmosphere stayed quiet and stiff during the ride.
Half an hour later, they arrived at a fancy private dining room. The group split up to sit at four separate tables.
They had barely sat down when a server walked over. “Shall we start serving the dishes?”
Everyone looked confused. No one knew who had booked the restaurant or pre–ordered the

meals.
Still, nobody complained. Everyone was glad they didn’t have to wait to order food.
“Go ahead and serve them,” Zoe said.
One fancy dish after another was brought out shortly after.

Every person at the table stared at the luxurious feast in pure shock, sending grateful glances toward Zoe.
The first dish was a luxurious braised seafood platter. It was followed by caviar–topped foie gras, spiny lobster, giant snow crab and prime Wagyu steak.
None of them usually got the chance to eat such expensive delicacies.
Everyone except Zoe had an amazing time enjoying the meal.
Halfway through dinner, Zoe excused herself to go to the restroom.
She walked up to the front counter, pulled out her phone, and asked nervously, “How much is the bill for our private room?”
The cashier checked the computer briefly. “Your room has already been paid for.”
Zoe’s eyes widened in surprise. “Who paid it?”
“I’m not sure. The payment went through long before the reservation.”
Zoe turned around with her phone in hand. The only person that came to her mind was
