Inside the study, Thaddeus was sorting through the group's recent internal data and the two classified documents his grandfather had given him.

Evadne's sweet voice darkened. "Aaron just sent me the news. This evening, they found two cars near the South Elmsworth Expressway containing four bodies. One of them was Morgan, the ringleader of the kidnappers who abducted you and Chad years ago.

"The other was Chad's biological uncle, the former head of the Austin family and your father's brother-in-law, Mason Austin!"

Thaddeus's dark eyes widened. "Mason Austin? He's dead?!"

"I thought he was still hiding out overseas. I never expected him to sneak back into Elmsworth, let alone turn up dead here."

Evadne paused, her tone growing even colder. "Tell me, who has the capability to wipe out two major players like that at the exact same time?"

The answer was obvious.

Other than Chad Abernathy, no one had the motive.

And other than Chad, no one was ruthless enough to commit such cold-blooded murder.

"Chad has finally stepped onto the board himself."

Thaddeus lowered his long lashes. The blood in his veins began to boil, and his hand balled into a tight fist at his side. "The final battle is here."

Standing in the doorway were Myra and Aviana, both looking incredibly anxious.

"Myra, Aviana, what's wrong? It's so late," Evadne asked, deeply confused.

Myra exchanged a tense glance with Aviana before lowering her voice. "Evadne, we have a guest. A very important guest."

"An important guest? Who?"

"It's... someone from the Helgen royal family." Even as Myra said it, it felt like a fever dream.

Evadne was completely bewildered. "The royal family?!"

Her immediate thought went to Princess Stella.

Had the princess been abandoned by the royals? Was she homeless and seeking refuge with Bennett?

Aviana was too impatient to wait. "It's the King of Helgen! Well, no, they call him the Emperor. Regardless, their Emperor is here! He's right downstairs in our house!"
