His Ex-Wife Is A Billionaire (Evadne and Thaddeus) novel Chapter 1345

The cold, emotionless voice carried no trace of anger or joy.

Yet it sliced through the air like an unsheathed blade, aiming straight for Chad's throat.

The man standing outside spoke clearly and forcefully, ensuring every single person in the room heard him.

The board members simultaneously snapped their attention to Chad, whose face had instantly frozen over.

Frederic stared at Chad in absolute horror. He had a million questions screaming in his head, but under the scrutiny of the entire board, he didn't dare ask a single one.

"Mr. Chad!"

Aaron raised his voice, shouting from the doorway. "Do I come in and escort you out, or are you going to walk out here and see me?"

His attitude was both mocking and incredibly arrogant.

He was actively twisting the knife right into Chad's ego.

Outside, the authorities stood ready.

Inside, the room was dead silent. The tension was suffocating, like a violent undercurrent trapped beneath a frozen lake.

Whispers finally broke out among the board members as they began exchanging panicked looks.

Realizing the situation was spiraling out of control, Frederic tried to dismiss the meeting. But Aaron didn't wait. He decisively pushed past security and marched straight into the boardroom with his officers.

Before Frederic could explode, Aaron coldly pulled out his badge.

"Captain Ashbourne, Elmsworth City Police, Homicide Division."

Aaron flashed a slightly roguish but highly intimidating smile. "We're old acquaintances. I assume Chairman Frederic and Mr. Chad don't need further introductions?"

"Captain Ashbourne..."

Before Frederic could finish his sentence, Aaron cut him off without a shred of respect. "Hey now, use my official title when I'm on duty."

The board members were speechless.

This cop was built different. He didn't even care that he was talking to a billionaire Chairman.

Frederic gritted his teeth, forcing down his rage. "Captain Ashbourne, we are in the middle of a board meeting. Can whatever this is wait until we're finished?"

"Mr. Frederic, murder waits for no one."

Aaron turned his sharp gaze toward Chad, who was still sitting calmly in his chair. "Mr. Chad, your uncle, the former Chairman of the Austin Group, Mason Austin, was found dead on the side of the Elmsworth highway. Since you are his only living blood relative, we need you to come with us to assist with the investigation."

The entire boardroom erupted in shock.

Who in that room didn't know Mason Austin? The man used to terrorize Elmsworth.

When Mason was finally sentenced to life in prison, Frederic thought he had finally escaped that cursed family. He had no idea Mason had somehow managed to sneak out of prison.

But the fact that Mason was dead again meant God had eyes. The world was finally rid of a true demon.

"Captain Ashbourne, are you implying I murdered my uncle?" Chad maintained his usual placid smile, but the vicious shadow in his eyes was painfully obvious.

"Did I say that? Why so eager to deny it, Mr. Chad?"

Aaron narrowed his sharp eyes. "I merely asked you to assist in the investigation. What's wrong? Did I hit a nerve?"

Beneath the table, Chad's hands slowly curled into fists, the veins bulging against his pale skin.

"Why haven't you stood up yet? Do we need to fetch you a wheelchair?" Aaron mocked him openly. Despite his years as a detective dealing with the worst criminals imaginable, Chad was the one person who always pushed his patience to the absolute limit.

Frederic was humiliated and furious. He slammed his hands on the table and stood up. "Captain Ashbourne, please speak with some respect! Do not insult my son!"

Seeing the Chairman lose his temper, Aaron only smiled wider. "Did I? He used to play up the crippled persona all the time. What? Are we dropping that act now?"

Frederic was livid. "You—!"

"That's enough, Dad. There's no need for this."

Chad gripped the armrests and slowly stood up, his face an unreadable mask. "It's just assisting an investigation, isn't it? I'll go with you."
