If only she had never met him.
But would he ever be willing to let go of an epic romance like theirs?
He couldn't bear to lose her.
He was madly in love with her.
"Heh... honestly, from the day I started working for Chad, I knew this day would come. I just didn't expect it to happen so soon." Holden buried his face in his hands, unable to tell if he was laughing or crying as his emotions unraveled.
"I looked into your background, Holden," Thaddeus said, his tone calm and steady.
"You graduated from a top university, come from a family of scholars, and always had a stellar academic record. For fifteen years, you've worked diligently without a single misstep. Deep down, you aren't a bad person."
Holden looked desolate. "What's the point of saying that now? My life... is already over."
Evadne's expression turned stern. "Did you know the police have already found Alexia's body?"
Holden stared in horror. "What..."
"You were the one who cut off her head, weren't you?" Evadne asked.
Holden violently shuddered, his eyes darting around the room in absolute panic.
Fearing Holden might completely snap and do something unpredictable, Thaddeus grabbed Evadne's hand, enveloping it tightly in his warm grasp. He took a protective half-step in front of her.
"Chad wanted to become a premium member of the KING CLUB, so he desperately tried to curry favor with his uncle, Mason Austin. To prove his loyalty, he offered Alexia... to Mason. He didn't expect Mason to be a total sadist. Mason abused her until she was practically unrecognizable. She completely turned against Chad after that, but as for the exact reason he killed her... I don't know."
Thaddeus lowered his gaze, falling silent.
Whether it was Alexia or Acacia Stirling, she had done horrible things and brought it upon herself.
Still, he couldn't help but feel a deep sense of pity.
"This is the twisted genetics of the Austin family at work," Evadne said, steadily regaining her composure. "Mason Austin, Chad, and Chad's mother—none of them were spared. They all suffered from severe psychological and mental issues."
She looked at the secretary with a burning intensity. "Holden, you didn't commit the murder. The law won't come down on you as harshly. It's not too late to turn back. I want you to step forward and become a state's witness to testify against Chad's crimes. I'll hire the best lawyer to defend you."
