His Ex-Wife Is A Billionaire (Evadne and Thaddeus) novel Chapter 1375

Meanwhile—

The Windermere Estate was steeped in a gloomy, oppressive silence.

Once a towering pillar of high society, the Abernathy family had crumbled in just two short years, its glorious members scattered to the winds.

It was a tragic downfall.

In the early hours of the morning, the sprawling estate was an empty, desolate ghost town.

A shadowy figure swiftly and stealthily slipped through the back door of the mansion, heading straight for Chad's bedroom.

He knew the passcode. Slipping inside easily, he tiptoed around with a flashlight, frantically ransacking the room for anything of value.

Chad was obscenely wealthy, treating money like dirt.

Having worked for him for so long, Holden knew his boss never locked away his jewelry or antiques in a safe like other rich men. Instead, they were casually displayed around the house. Items worth millions were just ordinary trinkets to him; he seemed completely uninterested in them.

Now, Frederic had turned himself in, and Chad was in police custody. The new chairman of the group was none other than the eldest son's sworn enemy—Thaddeus!

The empire was collapsing, and Holden knew he would be collateral damage.

For the past two days, Holden had been tossing and turning, feeling as if a knife was pressed to his back. He had done so much of Chad's dirty work, even disposing of Alexia's body. It wouldn't be long before Chad caved under the pressure and sold him out, likely pinning the entire murder on him!

He had been genuinely loyal to Chad.

But he had parents to think about. He couldn't bear to break their hearts and leave them mourning their son. Besides, Hans had betrayed them, Alexia was dead, and he was the one most deeply tied to Chad's crimes. The cops would be knocking on his door any day now.

So, after agonizing over his options, he decided to sweep the estate for valuables, leave a portion for his parents, and flee Elmsworth overnight to hide out abroad.

Just as Holden was greedily stuffing his pockets, a sharp click echoed through the room.

"But you wouldn't just leave empty-handed. Chad kept a fortune in assets here at the Windermere Estate. Evadne had me pull all the security guards. We knew that if greed got the better of you, you'd walk right into our trap."

Holden hung his head in absolute defeat, utterly broken. "Hah... You truly live up to your reputation, Ms. Evadne. There isn't a smarter or more brilliant woman in the world."

Evadne offered a faint, modest smile. "Every girl is smart and exceptional in her own unique way. I just happen to have a bit more experience in this specific area. I've had plenty of practice going toe-to-toe with your boss for a long time."

Despite her prestigious background, she never considered herself superior to anyone else.

If she had the choice, she would much rather be an ordinary person, far away from the treacherous corporate battlegrounds. She just wanted to spend her life with the man she loved, sharing simple meals and the quiet comforts of a normal life.

Hearing her words, Thaddeus swallowed hard, a lump forming in his throat.

A bitter pang of guilt quietly spread through his heart.

He was the reason she had faced so many storms. She could have grown up blissfully happy, endlessly pampered by her father and brothers. Instead, because of him, she had endured agonizing hardships and witnessed the most sinister sides of human nature.
