His Last Command Came Back to Kill Him novel Chapter 167

It was obvious Bonnie was checking in deliberately. After her conversation with Clive the day before, she could sense the massive rift between the couple.

Whitley paused, her tone perfectly even. "He's fine."

Bonnie let out a warm, encouraging chuckle. "The kitchen made a fresh batch of soup. Could you find some time to bring it over to him?"

In the past, Whitley wouldn't have needed an invitation; she would have practically lived at the hospital, tending to his every need.

But everything was different now.

"I don't think so," Whitley replied softly. "I'm buried in work right now. Have one of the staff drop it off."

Bonnie was slightly taken aback, immediately assuming Whitley was refusing because Yelena was there. She coaxed gently, "Are you angry with him? Clive and Yelena actually..."

"We'll sort out our own issues. Please don't worry about it," Whitley interrupted gently.

A beat of silence passed before Bonnie softened her tone. "If you're ever feeling wronged or pushed aside, you come straight to me. I will always have your back."

"I know. Thank you."

Hanging up, Whitley lowered her eyes.

Bonnie had always treated her with genuine warmth. She was one of the very few bright spots in the Sherwood family.

But some battles she had to fight alone. She could no longer rely on the elders to patch up a broken marriage.

She was just gathering her things to grab lunch when her phone lit up again.

Caller ID: Lamont Zimmerman.

Whitley frowned slightly.

Her father rarely called in the middle of the day. This felt alarming.

"Dad?"

Lamont's voice was grim and direct. "Get to Metropolitan Central Hospital right now. It's Josiah."

Whitley's heart seized.

"What happened to him?"
