His Plump Mate (Book 1: The 'His' Series) novel Chapter 440

Isaiah POV

Kaia is looking at me with a serious expression, and I’m filled with dread. Did the judge not grant the divorce? How much longer will it take? I’m practically dying to claim Kaia.

She looks at Mr. Fellman and shakes his hand. “Thank you, Mr. Fellman. We will be in touch within the next thirty days.”

Thirty days! Is the divorce going to take another thirty days? I don’t think I can wait. She’s mine, and I want her now.

“I’ll be in touch over the next thirty days. I will let you know when we are ready.” He replied and said goodbye.

After he walked away, I looked at Kaia, “What is going on?”

Sinclair even looks worried. Did she endure that beating, years of mistreatment, and her father’s yelling for nothing?

She smiled gently, then widely. “I’m a free woman!” she said, holding up the paperwork. Sinclair squealed with happiness for Kaia, and I think my heart stopped.

My mate is free of her asshole husband. I’m not waiting to mark her. She’s getting marked tonight, in our room at the pack house.

I grabbed her and hugged her. “Finally,” I said, then pulled back. “Wait, so were you just screwing with us just now?”

She chuckled. “Yeah, I do have to meet with the attorney. The judge granted me everything in the prenup agreement. Over the next thirty days, all ownership has to be transferred to me, or my EX-husband will be in contempt of court and will go to jail. So, I will have to make an additional trip to sign the paperwork.”

My mate suckered me into thinking she didn’t get the divorce. Oh, that’s just another item on my list of reasons to punish her later in bed. I’m going to have a lot of fun, too. “You just added another reason to my list, trouble.”

I see her smirk and cheeks turn red. “Why don’t we discuss it in our room tonight, stickler?”

I growled low, and we looked over at Sinclair, who was looking at her phone. “Sinclair, what’s wrong?” Kaia asked.

Sinclair snaps her eyes up. “Oh, um, nothing. We should start packing up to go. Don’t you think?”

When we get back to the Airbnb, we pack up everything and throw it in the car. Then we drove to the airfield. All the while, I keep my eyes on Sinclair. She looks like she’s struggling with inner turmoil. Kaia’s right, though. She doesn’t know what she’s walking into, and she was already hurt and in the hospital. She isn’t ranked, and her healing time will be slow, or too late if the injury is bad enough.

Now that Kaia is divorced, I can mark her and get her in the blood pact. This will help with her healing time and puts me at ease a bit. I can’t say the same for Sinclair. She hasn’t found her mate, and when she does, if it’s not a ranked member, her healing time will continue to be slow, so I agree with Kaia. She should let that family go.

At the airfield, we load everything, and once we’re in the jet and taxiing, I let out a breath. FINALLY!

Kaia chuckled. “Happy to be going home, stickler?”

I raised an eyebrow at her. “I’m glad you both are coming back to the safety of the pack, but yes, I’m ready to get home.”

‘I’m also ready to complete the mate bond with you, trouble,” I said to Kaia in the mind link.

Her cheeks reddened, and I smirked. Yeah, definitely glad to be going home.
