Isaiah POV
That mate bond snapped into place, and for the first time, I had real insight into Kaia’s mind. She has never felt wanted. That’s all she ever wanted. To be loved and wanted. I also felt her wonder and awe about me. I wasn’t expecting that. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting her to be in awe of me unless it was about sex, but it isn’t about sex; although she enjoyed it, it was about me specifically.
Happiness and pride rose a little in my mind. When I pulled out of her, I felt her soreness. I could have waited until tonight, but I think I would have spontaneously combusted. I feel better knowing she is marked and no one can take her from me now. That was my biggest concern.
“How do you feel?” I asked her.
She snuggled up to me, like she does every night, and I smiled as I put my arm around her.
“Sore, but I regret nothing.” She smirked. “That wasn’t what I was expecting. I thought I would be in pain, honestly.”
Considering no one has ever treated her gently, I could see how she would think that. “I don’t want you to be in pain unless it’s the pleasurable kind, Kaia. Trust me, I have a list of your offenses in my mind. I’ll be coming to collect soon enough.” I smirked.
“Is that a threat or a promise?”
“Oh, it’s a guarantee. All the teasing, nicknames, escaping, snarky comments…believe me, I have something in mind for each of them.” I said.
She raised an eyebrow at me. Not in a curious way, but that seductive and mischievous way that comes with a little challenge in her eyes. She’s about to say something when howls are heard.
“Fuck!” I said, jumping up and throwing on my clothes. “Get to a safe room, Kaia.”
She threw her clothes on, “You’re joking, right? I’m with you.” She said.
“Kaia,” I said with a tone that shouldn’t be questioned, but she completely ignored me.
“Have you learned nothing about me in the last week, stickler? I don’t follow rules. I break them. Let’s go.” She said, running out the door.
This woman. I’m putting her over my knee tonight. She’s going to understand pleasure and pain and will enjoy both.
I run after her, and when we get outside, there are rogues everywhere. Aiden and Thalia are already outside. Mom and Dad are there, and so are Sinclair and Rodrigo, as well as Jonah and Rory. What I didn’t expect was Reid, Navy, and Adrian.
The warriors are fighting off rogues, and Kaia is pissed. She looks at Sinclair. “We check the alarms when this is over. They should have been held off!”
She slides like a baseball player between a rogue’s legs and, before coming to her knees and punching the one behind him in the balls, while Sinclair takes out the one she just slid under.
That was a smooth fucking move. I’m close to them, and Rodrigo and I tag team to stick close to Kaia and Sinclair. He likes her. That is how I used to look at Mia. It’s too bad they are not mates.
