Kaia POV
Isaiah finished introducing me to the rest of his family and is now checking me over. Izo is already healing me, and it feels a little quicker than before. My lip is still busted, though, and Isaiah’s eyes darkened. His tenderness in handling me is touching.
“You should have gone to the safe room, Kaia.”
“I’m a hitman, Isaiah. You think I haven’t been in tight spots before? I’m fine, I promise.”
“I’m taking you over my knee tonight, trouble.” He smirked. “I need to start collecting on your list of offenses before it becomes unmanageable. I’m sure it will never end.”
I smiled, “As I said, I bring color to your life, Isaiah. You won’t be bored.”
He leans down and kisses me. When he starts deepening the kiss, and my arms go to his shoulders, we are interrupted.
“Ugh! Gross. Get a room, you two,” Sinclair said with a smirk. “Some of us actually want to stomach our food.”
I flipped her off and laughed. “Wait until you find your mate, Sinclair. I can’t wait for that day to happen!”
We go into the common area, and Thalia sees the stone, but then says she needs to call her grandfather. She’s reacting differently to the stone; meanwhile, none of us feels a thing. Aiden scoops her up like a princess, and they head up to their office.
As soon as they leave, my stomach starts grumbling. I’m hungry, and Isaiah heard it. “Let’s get you something to eat.” Then he leaned in and whispered in my ear. “You’re going to need your energy, trouble.”
Izo is doing back flips in my head in anticipation. ‘Hurry up and eat. I want to run with Storn. Don’t forget!’
“Do you think we can go for a run first? It’s been a while since I let Izo out for a run. She wants to run with Storn, too.” I said.
Isaiah grinned, “Storn would love that. After we eat, we’ll go. Expect Storn to be…excited.”
Izo is drooling in my head, and I feel my cheeks flush. “Understood.”
In the dining hall, practically all of Isaiah’s family is there. Growing up, it was just dad and me…and that was even grasping for straws. Most days, I was by myself with the help, and they had their own responsibilities and couldn’t spend time with me.
I’m smiling and listening in on how Reid gives Rory a hard time and how Navy jokes with Isaiah about us being mates. I feel like I’m on the outside looking in when Rebel asks, “So everything back home is tied up and done, Kaia?”
“The main part, yes. I have to go back in the next few weeks to finalize some things, and then it will be completely done.” I said.
Reid looked at me, “What still needs to be finalized?”
“A division of assets, or rather a transfer of assets,” I said. “After that, I can complete everything else from here.”
“Your father is a miserable asshole,” Adrian said. “He sold you for his benefit and didn’t care how you would end up?”
Isaiah chimed in, “He was a terrible father to her since she was young. It doesn’t surprise me at this point.”
Austin is growling low. “What is it with your fathers? Thalia’s dad was a miserable asshole, too. What about you, Sinclair?”
Sinclair looked at the group. “Mine wasn’t any better.”
Isaiah spoke up again, “Her foster father and brother tried to hold information about Sinclair’s birthparents unless she slept with them.”
“WHAT?!” Austin roared.
“That was before her foster sister stabbed her, Dad. I had to rush her to the hospital to get a blood transfusion. Both of them were in the hospital. Kaia’s asshole ex-husband beat her and broke her cheekbone and ribs. Sinclair was stabbed in the stomach.” Isaiah said, snitching on both of us.
Rebel spoke up, “Sinclair, tell me you are done.”
“I am done with my foster family. Not with finding my birth parents, though.” She said quietly.
