Aric POV
Sinclair told me everything she found out regarding the people listed in the adoption records. But realizing she was likely kidnapped, she decided to pivot her search and start looking for any affiliations to Cherise and Ronan Clay’s past. People they may have known. Why was she with them, when she should have been with her family?
I then told her about our parents. I gave names, birthdays, and anything else I could remember, along with any documents I could provide. She was hoping to find a digital footprint. A link to the mystery. I had no idea how extensive her hacking knowledge was, but she is a totally different person when she is focused on her ‘mission,’ as she called it.
“I can’t believe all the things you found out already,” I said with nothing but pure admiration.
Sinclair stopped typing and looked at me. I could tell she had a question. I waited for her to ask, and her voice was faint, “Do you have a picture of them?”
I smiled gently at her. I pulled out my phone and pulled the only picture of them I had saved. In all the information I gave her, I didn’t think to show her a picture of our parents. She looked a lot like Dad, except in the eyes. She has mom’s eyes.
When she saw the picture, a tear slid down her face. “You were lucky to have a family at all, Aric. I wish I could have known them.”
She handed the phone back to me and continued typing. It occurred to me that the whole IT thing is her way of coping. She looks at a computer screen and tunes everything out, including her feelings.
A couple of hours passed and she sat back and sighed. “This is going to take longer than I thought. It seems like this is a messy web of information.”
“Or we could go to the source,” I suggested.
She looked at me, “You mean, you want to go with me to find Cherise?”
“Why not?”
She smiled brightly, “Why not? We should totally go. I have a lead on where we can begin. Have you ever gone undercover before?”
I chuckled, “I’m a Beta, Sinclair. Of course I have scouted.”
She smiled again.
Just then, I heard a snarl, and I turned around, and there was a man coming towards me. I’m ready to fight, but then Sinclair, in a very surprised voice, says, “Rodrigo? What are you doing here?”
This is Rodrigo? He clearly has a crush on my sister. He is acting like a mate. Sinclair didn’t mention having a mate. I didn’t see a mark on her neck either.
Rodrigo stopped in his tracks. “Sinclair, who is this guy?”
“I’m her brother, asshole,” I replied with a low growl.
Sinclair started laughing. “So this is what it feels like to have an overprotective brother.”
Rodrigo and I looked at her laughing, and then the fight left both of us.
“Are you two mates?” I asked.
Sinclair shook her head, “No. We are friends though. Right, Rodrigo?”
I saw some of the light leave Rodrigo’s eyes. “Yeah, we are friends. “ I thought you were trying to seduce her.” Then he looked at Sinclair. “So you have a brother now?” I thought you were human, turned and grew up an orphan?”
“Correct on all counts. Except there have been developments,” Sinclair said, and then went on to explain everything to Rodrigo. His shocked expression and speechless commentary basically said everything that needed to be said.
