His Plump Mate (Book 1: The 'His' Series) novel Chapter 560

Sinclair POV

I needed to clear my head, so I left the house for a little while to let Mali run. It felt really good, and it was just what I needed. Mali and I have been feeling unsettled since that dream. It makes no sense. I didn’t even know who the man and woman in that dream were, though I suspect they were Adrian and Amber. The black ring around her neck could have been the curse.

But, if that is the case, why would she point to me? Why would he look at me and walk away? I don’t get that. I consider him a friend. Maybe not a friend. More like a constant annoyance, always trying to get under my skin. I think that’s why Mali likes him.

‘I like him because he gets you to act your age, Clair. You forget you are twenty-one. Most women your age go to concerts, shop with friends, and have girlie hobbies like dancing or painting. You literally have none of these things. You never have. Life hardened you, and he brings the youth inside of you out.’

‘My hobbies are all in tech, Mali. It’s what I enjoy.’

‘The only other time you act like a young woman is when you hang out with Kaia. That is going to be harder now that she is about to become a mom. We are in this together, and your life has no sparkle, no fireworks. It worries me that you are existing instead of living.’

I don’t respond to that. I’m not existing. I’m surviving. It’s all I know. I was shoved into the shadows, and I made my fortress in those shadows. I didn’t have anything normal growing up. If I had, I wouldn’t have likely become a hitman. Let’s be honest. People who are part of the ‘fucked up crowd’ are usually the best hitmen anyway.

I shake off her words and head back towards the house. When I get there, I can tell immediately that something is wrong. I crouch behind a bush and hear things being destroyed. My scalp starts tingling. I left my phone in the bedroom.

I take a deep breath and stealthily make my way into the house. Where the fuck is the security team Isaiah hired? I get closer, and it doesn’t take me long to figure it out. They are unconscious on the floor.

I hear the intruder in the den, and I hear my equipment being destroyed. When I get closer, I sucked in a breath. Ronan.

SON. OF. A. BITCH! He took out three security guards. He’s stronger than I thought. How did he find me, though? My software is impenetrable. Well, I’m about to find out.

“Fancy meeting you here, Ronan,” I said from behind. My stance is immediately defensive.

He glares at me. “I don’t take lightly to being tracked, bitch.”

“I don’t take lightly to having my things destroyed. You’re going to have to pay for the damages."

"Don’t think you are anything special…omega.”

I chuckled, “I’m not special because I’m a wolf, Ronan. I’m special because you see me as a threat.”

He scoffed at me. “A little girl like you is no threat to a man like me, bitch.”

I inch close enough to the side table in the dining room. He is still looking at me from the den. My equipment behind him is smashed. It won’t stop anything. I have backups to my backups.

“Does Julian know you are tracking him? How about Amber?” He sneered.

My face becomes cold. “You killed Amber. You have no clue the war that is coming to you, Ronan.”

I stood up as he staggered from the blow. “You’ll still feel me tomorrow, Ronan. Too bad I can’t say that for you,” I said, pissing him off.

‘Are you fucking crazy!?’

‘Pissed-off people make mistakes, Mali. Get your claws ready.’

Ronan snarls at me. “I’ll show you fucking pain, bitch!”

He lunges again, and this time I sidestep. ‘Now Mali!’

My claws come out, and I swipe his rib cage down to his thigh. Then I leaped, twisted, and drove my fist straight to his face. I’m a hitman before I’m a woman or wolf. This is what I know. This is what he doesn’t expect. I have more than enough moves to keep him under my thumb, too.

He lands hard on the ground, clutching his side. I see the gun I grabbed from the side table on the ground. It was knocked out of my hand when he slammed me against the table. I picked it up and pointed it at that bastard.

“You hurt both my families, Ronan. You don’t get to live,” I said.

I cocked the gun, and right as I fired my first shot, Ronan moved and narrowly missed it. I never miss. He was way too fast.

He leaped towards me, and before he reached me, I shot two more times. He slammed me against one of the scones on the wall in the foyer. I fell to the ground. Darkness is starting to come over me, but I see him run out the front door before everything goes completely black.
