Kaia POV
Yesterday was the funeral. Everyone was sad. It’s expected. It seemed split, though. It seems there was some sadness over Amber’s death, but most of it was over Adrian. We all know what he suffered during his time with Amber.
Isaiah told me what he and Adrian talked about. It’s understandable why he was so heartbroken. He said some kind words about Amber, and as the funeral was ending, her aunt showed up.
Apparently, Isaiah helped Adrian locate her. Her eyes were swollen from crying, but she was quiet. Later, she and Adrian went to talk. When they came back, she looked somber. Adrian must have told her everything, and she must feel bad about her niece’s actions.
We put her in a room in the pack house until we can hear from Sinclair. Once she confirms his location, she will update us. It seems strange that it is taking this long, though. I would have thought she would have had information by early afternoon.
I’m walking towards Isaiah’s office to see if he has heard from Sinclair. I’m ready to turn the door handle, when instead I squeeze it. My stomach tightens, and pain shoots through my back.
Isaiah must have sensed it, because he opened the door. “Kaia, what’s wrong?” he asked with concern.
“I think that was a contraction. Maybe Braxton-Kicks.”
“Come inside, let’s get you on the sofa.”
Aiden comes rushing in. “Brother, I am using your pack hospital.”
“What happened?”
“Thalia’s water broke.”
“Fuck! Go now!”
Aiden runs out and goes to Thalia. Just as I’m about to say something, another contraction hits me.
“Mmph,” I said, grabbing my stomach. Realization hits me that I am going into labor, too. Uh-oh. “Isaiah, I don’t think Thalia is the only one giving birth today,” I gritted my teeth.
Isaiah’s eyes widened. “Are you sure?”
I shot him a look. “Get me to the pack hospital, NOW.”
He smiled widely and then scooped me up. We get to the stairs at the same time as Aiden and Thalia. Aiden’s eyes widened.
“You too?”
Isaiah answered, “Yeah, let’s go!”
Another contraction hits me. “Fuck! This does not feel good,” I said to no one in particular. I think I just need to hear my voice for the moment.
I hear Thalia going through her contractions, too. She is having twins, and I’m having a giant pup.
“Do it,” I said, decisively. “Just give me the good shit and numb me up, doc,” I said, gritting through another contraction.
He nodded and called the nurses to get the OR ready and prep me for the surgery. Isaiah is looking at me incredulously.
“Kaia, are you sure about this?” he asked me, clearly not understanding how these things work.
“Yeah. I’m sure. He needs to come out now. If he’s in distress this early on, I won’t be able to deliver him normally. Go get scrubs on,” I said, giving him a task to keep his mind steady.
I’ve had the epidural administered, and Isaiah is in scrubs. I’m not being rolled towards the OR, and Aiden is seeing us pass his room with Thalia. He rushes out of the room quickly.
“Are you both okay?” he asked.
Isaiah called over his shoulder, “Emergency C-section. I’ll explain later.”
Aiden is standing by the door until he is out of sight. Isaiah and I are both in the OR, and I’ve been moved to a different table. They put a barrier between my stomach and me. Isaiah is standing behind me as the nurses are getting me ready.
The doctor comes in, dressed in scrubs as well. “Alright, let’s deliver your heir.”
It all happened so quickly. I felt tugging and pulling, and then I heard the sounds of our son crying. I’m smiling and crying and holding Isaiah’s hand. He has tears coming down his face as he is asked to cut the umbilical cord. Then our son is brought over to us. He is a big boy, and he’s ours. I’m a mother now. We are parents. My mind is reeling. Shit just got real.
