His Plump Mate (Book 1: The 'His' Series) novel Chapter 662

Sinclair POV

The following morning, after I sent the videos to Adrian, he asked who hit me. I knew I shouldn’t have sent those videos. I thought Mali had healed them enough, and I dimmed the lights, but he still saw it.

I explained what happened, and he wanted me to come back home immediately. I told him I couldn’t do that, and we got into an argument. Since then, I haven’t spoken to him or sent him any videos.

I only send a status update and shut off the remote controller. He starts sending me message after message after my reports, but I refuse to get stressed out over his stress. I’m working too hard here, and things are finally coming together.

Mali has been a pain. She thinks we need to talk it through. I told her that Adrian isn’t talking it through. He’s giving orders, and I’m not in the mood to deal with said orders. Thalia needs me here. Hell, the packs need me here. He doesn’t understand this is bigger than me.

“What are you thinking about?” Angelo said, breaking me out of my thoughts.

“Oh, um, nothing. I’m just focused on work, Angelo.”

He nodded, though his eyes clearly indicated he didn’t believe me. “Right. Well, the final phase of the server areas is coming together.”

“Good. You have done well. You are also training well. I thought I should mention it.”

“I think I’m getting some bulk. What do you think?” He asked as he flexed his still bony arm to show off the tiny bicep he had.

I smiled. “Oh, yeah. You are going to have the women fawning over you soon.”

He narrowed his eyes and threw a pencil at me playfully. “I’m going to keep training and working out. When I’m big and attractive, then I will ask you out for dinner.”

I laughed. “No can do, Angelo. We are not mates. Wait for your fated mate. You have one. We all do.”

I see some of the light drain from his eyes, but I have never once given him hope. Adrian might be on my last damn nerve right now, but he’s mine.

“Did Julian ever get around to showing you his surprise?”

I shook my head. “No. The following morning, he said something had come up and that he would make it up to me. Then he forgot. I don’t really care either way.”

“That sucks.”

“Why? I don’t care for anything he wants to show me. I’m just here to do a job. You know that.”

From behind us, we hear, “I was actually coming to get you for the surprise.”

I chuckled. “That’s good to know.”

We get to the bottom of the stairs, and he stops. “A while back, I wanted to know more about you. I had you investigated. I found out about your foster family. I think you know the two sitting in this cell.”

I furrowed my eyebrows and then took a step forward. Sitting on the floor, thin and with full-grown beards and matted hair, I saw two men. I turned to Julian, confused. “Who are they?”

“Your foster father and foster brother. Conrad and Chad.”

My eyes widened. “You were serious? You’ve had them in here for weeks?”

“Yes. They treated you terribly, Sinclair. They deserved to be thrown in prison,” he said, and my body went cold.

He was the judge and jury. They don’t look like they are in good shape either. This is the surprise? Did he think I was going to throw my arms around him like some hero? This is inhumane. They are human, not wolves. They are in need of medical attention.

“Julian. I care nothing for Conrad or Chad, but that is why I left them alone. They are nothing to me. If I wanted revenge, I could have gotten it myself. I understand your intentions were in the right place, but this is wrong. Terribly wrong. They are human. They need medical attention. They look dehydrated and malnourished.”

When was the last time either ate or drank water? This is terrifying.
