Sinclair POV
Understanding how the trackers sync will benefit me later. That’s why I decided to fix it. Then I saw my schematic—the tool before we made it into a glove. Julian is working with outdated information and is asking Angelo to do more.
I see why he is a lead tech, but he is still too new to understand something that intricate. It’s painfully obvious, too. I’m willing to be here created the whole Condor thing. Which means he is pulling a fast one under Julian’s nose. It amuses me.
Julian told me he would give me a folder with all the information. He left for a few minutes. I decided to take the time to question Angelo.
“You created Condor,” I stated.
Angelo’s eyes widened. He looked scared. I laughed.
“Relax. I am glad you did.”
Shocked, he asked, “You are?”
“You seem like a good guy. How did you get mixed up with him?” I asked.
“He sold me a dream. It was a lie. I even transitioned into a maw,” he said.
“When did you realize it was a lie?” I asked.
He sighed. “The moment he broke his promise about my freedom.”
“You’re imprisoned here?”
Angelo realized what he had confessed, then tried to backtrack. “No, no, no. It’s just, I don’t get a lot of time off. That’s all.”
“Hmm,” I said.
Interesting. This guy is smart, but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see he is suffering from burnout. He looks pale. He looks like he hasn’t seen the sun in a long time. It can make anyone feel imprisoned.
“Sinclair, here is the folder. As soon as you have something, Angelo can mind-link me to come back. I have a couple of meetings to attend right now.”
“Great. I need to go to the tech store. I’d like for Angelo to accompany me. Can you get a car and some guards ready?”
“What do you need?” Julian asked.
“Capacitors.”
“We can order them. There is no need to leave.”
I stood up. “Julian, let me be clear. I’m not a prisoner. I am a contractor. I will come and go as I please. I need to get supplies, and I need Angelo to accompany me. Is this going to be a problem? Because I’m evaluating whether to stay in your pack or not.”
Julian smirked. “You are right. I apologize. I will have two guards accompany you and Angelo.”
“Great. That’s three bag holders. Also, the fifty grand you promised me hasn’t hit my account. Where is it?” I asked.
Julian pulled out his phone and wired me the money. I immediately moved it to my bank card. He likes taking money back, and I’m not giving him the opportunity.
“Thank you,” I said and looked at Angelo. “Do you need to grab anything?”
“Uh, no.”
