Rebel POV
“Austin, my love, Adrian and Sinclair are pregnant again. I swear, your son acts the most like you when it comes to being overbearing over his mate when she is pregnant,” I said to my mate.
A full year and he hasn’t woken up. He lies on the hospital bed, alive, breathing, still here, and at the same time, absent. Aiden felt guilty and still does. He blames himself. He keeps saying that if Austin hadn’t tried to save him, he would be awake.
I wipe his face with cool water and kiss his lips. Every day I pray to the Moon Goddess to return my mate to me. Every day, her answer has been ‘no’.
“Thalia and Aiden’s pups are growing. Angelina and Theo are four months old. I can’t believe they have strength at a gift. We’ve had to start giving them their formula in metal bottles. They only settle when Thalia and Aiden hold them,” I said.
“Reid and Navy also had a surprise pregnancy. Because Navy is older, Reid won't let her do anything. Navy has been complaining that she is going to either boot Reid out of the pack or she is going to escape and come visit us, just to have some freedom,” I chuckled.
Austin’s face is still. No signs that he will wake up. I continue giving him the updates. All of them are pregnancy-related. “After months of trying, Kaia and Isaiah are finally pregnant again. Twin girls. Isaiah and Storn are beside themselves. Kaia is beaming.”
I hear a knock at the door. Thalia and Aiden come inside. “Hey Mom,” Aiden said. “How’s Dad doing?”
“He is fine. No changes,” I began. “I was just telling him about all the pups.”
Aiden chuckled. “I keep trying to tell Thalia that we need to start trying again. We still have three more to go.”
“Put it on ice, guapo. I have my hands full with Rosie, Teag, Tomas, Tony, Ang, and Theo. Rosie and Teag are walking, talking, shifting, and they are toddlers. Tomas and Tony are getting harder to grab, and I keep having to replace toys for Ang and Theo. I am not giving birth to any more pups for another two years, at least,” Thalia said, and she is completely exasperated.
Aiden chuckled but put his arms around her. “You are my beautiful Luna, Mojito. You are even more beautiful carrying my pups.”
“And yet…I’m not carrying anymore for at least two years, Aiden,” she replied with her eyes narrowed.
I laughed and looked at Austin. I remember when we used to talk about having a pack house full of pups. It feels like yesterday. Now all our pups are grown, and our pups are having pups. My eyes grew misty at the thought.
“Mom? What’s wrong?” Aiden asked, concerned.
I wiped my tears. “Oh, don’t pay attention to this old lady, my son. I’m just remembering.”
“Remembering what?” Thalia asked.
“Austin and I used to talk about having a lot of pups. We used to joke about having a pack house full of them,” I said. “After Rory, we stopped. You know that story, though. Now we have enough grandpups to fill a pack house. It makes me happy that I didn’t birth them all.”
I chuckled, and Thalia laughed, too. Then Aiden rubbed the back of his neck. “Councilman Edgar called. He said he is still holding a spot for Dad. When he wakes up, the position is his.”
