His Regret Arrived Three Days Late novel Chapter 127

Conrad struggled at first. He knew she was drunk and would regret this deeply once she sobered up.

The more he resisted, the more annoyed Annika became. Finally, she straddled him completely, holding his face and peppering it with kisses until he was covered in her saliva.

Conrad’s throat felt like it was on fire, parched from her teasing. In a swift motion, he flipped her over, turning the tables. His mouth crashed down on hers, biting and devouring her lips.

Annika whimpered in pain, but he had no intention of letting her go. She had started this fire, and now it was her responsibility to put it out.

Their clothes were quickly discarded onto the floor. Just as Conrad was poised to conquer, Annika inexplicably whispered a name: “Monroe.”

The name brought Conrad to a dead stop. Realizing who she was talking about, his body went rigid.

His face blended with the darkness outside, his eyes glinting with a cold light. An image of a tiny, pink face flashed in his mind—his son’s face. If it weren’t for this woman’s stubbornness, his son would have been forty-three days old.

He had been counting the days since the baby should have been born. He had even held onto a sliver of hope and sent Donovan to investigate, but the results Donovan brought back had plunged him into despair.

The fact that his child had been reduced to a mass of blood and tissue was something Conrad still couldn’t accept. He stopped going back to Scent Haven, burying himself in work day and night to numb the pain.

Conrad pushed Annika away, got out of bed, grabbed his coat, and stormed out of the room.

Seeing him leave, Annika’s face fell. She scrambled out of bed and ran to the door, but the hallway was empty. There was no sign of Conrad. A foolish smile spread across her face. It really was just a dream.
