At that moment, he had wanted to strangle her. The loss of the child had made him give up on her completely, his heart turning to stone. He had spent a long time in a desolate, empty state, merely going through the motions, constantly suppressing his emotions and telling himself that he and Annika were over. She didn't love him, and he had to let her go.
But this sudden news sent tremors through his entire being. Joy and excitement enveloped him. Clearing his chaotic thoughts, he extinguished the ruined cigarette, grabbed his jacket, and left the hotel, driving back to Seafall City overnight. If anything happened to his child, many people would have to pay with their lives.

While everyone was turning Seafall City upside down searching for the baby, Annika received an anonymous call. The caller didn’t identify herself, but the voice was so familiar that Annika recognized it as Yelena. Yelena told Annika to come alone to Century Apex, the tallest skyscraper in Seafall City.
“I’ll be waiting for you on the rooftop,” she said. Just as Annika was about to hang up, Yelena added a threat. “Don’t call the police. If you do, I’ll throw your son off, and you’ll never see him again.”
Annika squeezed her eyes shut, her lips trembling uncontrollably as her body went weak. She quickly composed herself, forcing down her grief and rage. She sent a text to Tyler, telling him she was going to Century Apex and that Yelena had Monroe on the rooftop. She urged him to get there as fast as he could.
As Annika stepped onto the building’s rooftop, she saw Yelena standing alone at the very edge, the cold wind whipping her hair and clothes. Hearing footsteps, Yelena slowly turned around, her gaze as sharp as a blade. “You came,” she said softly.
Annika’s throat tightened. She didn’t dare take a step forward, her eyes fixed on Monroe in Yelena’s arms. The baby seemed to be sleeping peacefully, completely unaware of the danger he was in.
“Aunt Yelena,” Annika choked out.
