His Regret Arrived Three Days Late novel Chapter 141

Yelena’s gaze drifted downward, and she was startled to see a sea of people gathered below. The sight of police officers and an inflatable safety cushion sent a shiver down her spine, snapping her back to reality.

She pointed a trembling finger at Annika, her voice dripping with venom. "Annika… you tricked me?"

"No," Annika cried out, her voice cracking.

Tyler, sensing Yelena's fear, shouted up at her, "The police were about to come up, but I stopped them. I just asked them—for a case like yours, with kidnapping and extortion, you're looking at a minimum of five to ten years. And since you're already a convict, you probably won't get out for another decade or more."

Yelena’s body trembled slightly at his words. Perhaps the thought of returning to that sunless hell was too much to bear. But after a moment of stunned silence, she burst into wild, maniacal laughter, tears streaming down her face. "I'm a dying woman anyway," she cackled. "Taking this little thing with me is more than worth it!"

She looked down at the peacefully sleeping infant in her arms, her fingers tracing his face. Her voice was as soft and unsettling as silk brushing against an eardrum. "Annika, do you know why your son is sleeping so soundly?"

Before Annika could respond, she answered her own question with a chilling chuckle. "Because I gave him a sedative."

"You…" The word was a strangled gasp. Annika’s heart couldn’t take any more. It felt like it was being torn apart. She could cross the few steps separating them and rush to her son, but the consequence would be watching him fall to his death, separating them for eternity. It was a gamble she didn't dare to take.

"Serena isn't dead."

The voice was glacial, cutting through the cool spring night and piercing the air. Yelena spun around. When she saw the tall figure emerging from the shadows, her heart seized. "Are you telling the truth?"

"I, Conrad Beryl, do not lie."
