His Regret Arrived Three Days Late novel Chapter 148

Annika pushed past Conrad and was about to charge upstairs when Estelle appeared at the top of the staircase, blocking her path.

“Annika,” she said, looking troubled, “Zoltan gave orders. You’re not allowed up here.”

Annika’s gaze flew past Estelle to the imposing, dark-suited figures standing guard at intervals in front of Zoltan’s door. The tight security made her heart turn to ice. She leaned against the wall, her knees buckled, and she slowly sank to the floor.

Estelle glanced upstairs, then feigned a gasp. “Annika, what are you doing? Get up, quickly!”

She reached down as if to help Annika. But Annika didn’t move. Staring at Zoltan’s closed door, she said firmly, “Estelle, please go tell Zoltan that if I can’t see Monroe, I will not leave.”

Estelle was smiling inwardly, but her face was a mask of concern. “Annika, you don’t have to do this.”

After two failed attempts to lift Annika, Estelle turned and knocked on Zoltan’s door. Before she could speak, Zoltan’s loud, cold voice boomed from within, “Let her kneel! Monroe will be a Beryl for the rest of his life, and that’s final.”

Not daring to provoke him further, Estelle retreated. Her eyes met Annika’s, a flicker of pity in them.

Yazmin hurried up the stairs and saw Annika kneeling on the cold floor. “Annika, the floor is freezing,” she pleaded, her heart aching. “You just gave birth. You can’t let your body break down like this.”

No matter what Yazmin said, Annika seemed not to hear. She kept her head down, biting her lip, her posture conveying her resolve to kneel until she saw her son.

Frustrated and worried, Yazmin could do nothing. She went back downstairs to vent to Conrad. “This is a standoff, and it’s all your fault! If you two hadn’t divorced, none of this would be happening.”

Conrad stood frozen in place, his expression grim, his hands clenched into tight fists in his pockets.

The heavy atmosphere in the villa was suffocating.
