In her dream, Annika was in a dark, deep alley. A faceless figure in black was running ahead, holding Monroe. She chased after them in a panic until the figure reached a dead end and slowly turned around. A sliver of light cut through the darkness, illuminating the person's face. It looked disturbingly like Serena Lawson.
The woman's eyes were filled with hatred as she looked at Annika. Her rose-colored lips parted. "Annika," she said, each word a heavy blow, "my child is gone. Don't think for a second that yours gets to live."
With a furious cry, Serena slammed Monroe onto the ground.
A sharp, piercing wail tore through Annika's heart. "Monroe!" she screamed, collapsing to her knees. She crawled toward him, and when she reached out to touch him, her fingertips came away covered in thick, red blood.
Annika woke up drenched in cold sweat. Realizing it was just a nightmare, she forced her breathing to steady. The scene from the dream was terrifyingly vivid—Serena, hurting Monroe.
She got out of bed and walked to the window, staring at the scattered stars in the distant sky, her heart still trembling.
“Bzzzz—”
The vibration of her phone shattered the silence. She turned and found it on the corner of her bed. The screen glowed with the name 'Tyler Stetson.'
*Why is he calling me so late?*
"Hello?" she answered.
Tyler's voice came through, slurred and indistinct. "Ann'ka... come get me."
He was obviously drunk, and not just a little.
"Tyler, you should call Belinda Baker. You two are a couple, after all," Annika said, not wanting to be a third wheel or ruin whatever happiness he had.
"Broke up," he mumbled, his tongue barely able to form the words. "That woman never really liked me anyway."
She remembered what Tyler had said to Conrad at Aspen Hospital the day she gave birth. Belinda had been sent by Conrad to keep Tyler occupied, to drive a wedge between him and Annika, even though there was nothing between them. Still, Annika felt that since Tyler had slept with Belinda and gotten her pregnant, he had a responsibility to her.
"What the fuck did you just say?" Tyler's voice suddenly sharpened, but his words clearly weren't directed at her.
