As everyone waited with bated breath, Conrad coolly pulled a cigarette from his pocket. The woman in his lap, Lina, quickly flicked a lighter and held the flame for him. Conrad didn’t refuse, leaning forward to light his cigarette. The white smoke blurred his handsome features, adding a touch of cruelty to his expression. Lina felt a chill seep into her bones. As she closed the lighter and tried to discreetly slip away, Conrad’s cold voice stopped her. “Where are you going?”
“Come here.”
Lina glanced at Annika’s ghostly pale face and forced an awkward smile. “Mr. Beryl, your wife is here. Perhaps…”
Before she could finish, Conrad cut her off sharply. “What wife? She’s just an ex-wife.”
*An ex-wife is still a wife,* Lina thought. She didn't dare leave, but she also didn't dare press herself against Conrad again. But then his arm shot out, wrapping around her slender waist, and he pulled her against him without warning.
The air was thick with tension, so heavy that no one dared to breathe too loudly.
“Annika, let’s go.” Tyler couldn’t bear to see her humiliated like this. He stepped forward to take her hand, but Annika shook him off. She marched forward, grabbed a handful of Lina’s hair, and yanked her backward with all her might. With a yelp, Lina was thrown from Conrad’s lap, landing sprawled on the floor. Her miniskirt rode up even higher, revealing a pair of pink panties and drawing snickers from the other women in the room.
Annika didn't even spare Lina a glance. Standing tall before Conrad, she fought to suppress the inferno raging inside her. Her voice was deceptively soft. "Conrad, you can call me whatever you want, but I’m still Monroe’s mother. Either you leave with me right now, or I’ll keep drinking until you do."
With that, she grabbed a bottle of liquor, tilted her head back, and started chugging. In moments, the bottle was empty.
Justin and Donovan’s expressions changed, and they shot worried looks at Conrad. But he just sat there, legs crossed, his face a mask of indifference, showing no sign of the storm brewing within.
