His Regret Arrived Three Days Late novel Chapter 56

“Did she say where she was going?”

“No, Mr. Beryl.” Beth didn’t dare lie, her mind racing with worry. What's happened now? Annika had just moved back in. Please, don't let there be any more trouble, she prayed.

Looking up, Beth saw Conrad’s car shoot out of the villa like a rocket.

That night, Conrad scoured Seafall City for Annika, only driving back as the first light of dawn streaked the sky.

Beth, who had been sleeping lightly, heard the car pull up and rose from her bed. Peeking through the window, she saw Conrad get out. She wanted to go ask if he’d found Annika, but the cold, grim expression on his face stopped her in her tracks.

Clearly, he hadn’t.

Annika didn’t return by morning, and Conrad sat in his room, motionless. Around noon, Harvey arrived. As Conrad came downstairs, he overheard Harvey speaking to Beth.

“Beth, I’m here to pick up Annika’s things,” Harvey said.

When Beth asked why, Harvey explained that Annika was swamped with work and didn’t have time to come back, so she’d be staying at the office for a while. He asked Beth to just pack a few changes of clothes.

Beth was hesitating, unsure what to do, when she turned and saw Conrad standing at the top of the stairs. “Mr. Beryl,” she called out.

Harvey whipped around, his eyes landing on the tall, imposing figure of Conrad. Despite his exhaustion, his face was so icy it looked like it could drip water. Damn, the tension in here is thick enough to cut with a knife!

Harvey felt a shiver run down his spine. He braced himself and managed to greet him, “Mr. Beryl.”

The words had barely left his mouth when a cold sweat broke out on his nose. He had been praying the whole way over that he wouldn't run into Conrad. His luck had been terrible lately; whatever he dreaded seemed to happen.
