His Regret Arrived Three Days Late novel Chapter 84

Serena's smile froze when she saw Annika. She'd thought it was Conrad returning with the electric kettle she'd asked for. She never expected to see Annika at her door.

Annika, however, seemed to have no interest in small talk. Her cold eyes flickered over Serena's broken legs hidden beneath the blanket before she pushed the door wider and brushed past Serena’s wheelchair.

“Ms. Lawson, you shouldn't be opening doors with your leg like that. I can do it,” a maid said, emerging from the kitchen. She stopped short when she saw the icy stranger in the entryway, the intimidating aura silencing her immediately.

The maid quickly wheeled Serena further into the room.

“Annika, what are you doing here?” Serena asked.

Having seen Serena's eager rush to the door, Annika knew Conrad wasn't home. She smiled sweetly. “I'm certainly not here to see you. I'm looking for Conrad. Where is he?”

Serena's brow furrowed. “He went out to buy me something.”

Just as she finished speaking, footsteps sounded at the door.

Annika looked up to see Conrad at the entrance, bending over to take off his shoes. He slipped on a pair of slippers and walked in. When his eyes landed on Annika, his expression barely changed, as if he'd been expecting her all along.

Conrad's gaze shifted to Serena. “They only had one left at the store, Serena. Good thing I got there when I did.”

“Thank you, Conrad.” Serena took the electric kettle and handed it to the maid, who hurried off to plug it in.

Serena's saccharine 'Conrad' felt like a knife twisting in Annika's chest. If she'd known Serena was living here, she never would have come.
