Chapter 23-1

Effie

“Have you been able to see your dad or grandma in the last few years since you’ve moved here?” Rodion

asked me. “Yeah, I have. My dad is the COO of the IT company. So he’s always had to travel between both

offices. When he would come down, I would go into the office to see him. As the CEO, it was an excuse to

go into the office. Before I came home, I would video chat both offices once or twice a month to make

sure that things were ok. After my grandparents passed away and left me the company, I started to do it.

So when I came over here, I kept up with it. But with the exception that here, I go into the company once or

twice a month depending on how busy that I am. And I make sure that the days I go in coincide with the days that dad’s down here. I always take Veer with me, and Dad always has Grandma. Because I use

Gran’s last name here, no one knows that Dad is my dad. So when we meet up in the office, people think

that the CEO and COO are in a meeting and that Dad’s mom is helping with Veer while we talk. When really, we’re spending time together, and they’re loving on Veer,” I told them.

I took a breath for a minute and then went on. “My brothers started coming down here every other month. The months that they don’t come here, they go to dad’s hometown. The boys use the excuse that Archie is learning about the other branches of the company since he works for the New York Branch. And Henrie goes with him so that he’s not traveling alone. More recently, they’ve been telling people that it’s because he’s putting in applications for a job. Which is true; he has been. They are both thinking about moving down here to live closer to me. Dad, Gran, Archie, and Henrie all hate that Veer and I are here without them. They know that I’m not without family because I have Dove, and she’s pretty much a sister. I also have a couple of other friends as well. But they still want to be closer to us so that they can be here for me and watch Veer grow up,” I told them.

“That’s not all of the family that you have, Effie. You now have my family and me as well. You know that you are my woman, even if you are being stubborn about it. You will realize eventually that you are mine and that I’m not letting you go again,” Leandro told me. And everyone in the room agreed that they were my family as well. And one may actually be blood family. That was something that I’d have to talk to Dad

and Gran about.

We talked for a little while longer before I left the office and headed out to the living room. The guys wanted to talk for a minute before Leandro took Veer and me home. When I got into the living room, I checked on Veer and then sat down. I talked to Alena and River for about fifteen minutes before the guys

came in.

When it was time to leave, Leandro picked Veer up out of the pack–in–play and held him while everyone kissed his forehead. I grabbed the diaper bag and my purse and then hugged everyone goodbye. “I’ll be around to the bakery in a few days. I’m running out of sweets at the house,” River said. “I’ll come with her because I need some more as well. Of course, now that we have found you, I want to see you and Veer as much as possible. I missed you so much, sweet girl. I finally feel like I have my other daughter back,” Alena

told me.
