KEITH’S POV
I finished talking with the manager from operations after lunch and then made my way to my office. Edward was with me, and left the elevator at the top floor, one of my bodyguards rushed toward me.
"Sir, Mrs. Acland," is missing, he said in a panic.
My eyes widened in surprise. "What do you mean by missing?" I asked them. I had sent three of the bodyguards with Jasmine and instructed them to return to the office with her.
" I apologize, sir. We were in the elevator, and she slipped past us," he said.
"There were three of you?! How the hell did she get past you!" I asked in annoyance.
The bodyguard trembled. "Again, I apologize, sir. The elevator was filled to the brim in the last second, and she slipped out."
My glare intensified, and he looked at me in fear.
"The bodyguards are already looking for her. It’s been 10 minutes since she left the elevator. We are sure she hasn’t gone far because she is unable to use the elevator, which is both occupied by bodyguards looking for her," she told me.
We were on the 50th floor; there was no way Jasmine could have made it to the ground floor already.
"What is security footage of the building showing?" I asked. She couldn’t have gotten far; she was injured, I thought to myself. However, I was worried she could hurt herself further.
"The other bodyguards have gone to the security room to check the footage. Ill have it sent to you right away, sir," they informed me.
"I’ll check it from my office I told him," I told him. I turn my back for one second, and she’s already pulling a stunt. I knew she was smart and always thinking of a way to escape.
I turned to Edward, who was behind me. He looked at me with a concerned gaze over the situation. I knew he had been judging Jasmine’s presence in my office lately. "Go prepare for the meeting ahead of me. I’ll meet with you in a moment," I told him.
"Yes, sir," he accepted and then left to go do as I had instructed.
I entered the office with the bodyguard who was texting her colleague to send the footage.
The footage showed her going into an office and shutting the door behind her.
"She’s still inside?" I asked her.
"Yes, sir the door hasn’t been opened since," she confirmed.
A wave of relief came over me. At least she was still in the building and hadn’t gone far. What was she doing in there, though? I thought to myself.
"We’ll go and get her, sir," the bodyguard informed me.
" I’m coming with you," I told them. "I’ll get my wife myself."
I got up from my desk, and we left my office. My thoughts went from fear to relief. She was still in the building, but what was she doing inside?
She looked up at me with that mischievous smile. She didn’t break eye contact as she glared at me.
"Your mother," she snapped at me in insult.
I brought my hand up to her chin and forced her to look back up at me. "I’m not joking who was it?" I told her.
Her defiant green eyes seemed to scoff at me. "You’re starting to sound like a jealous housewife again," she commented and removed my hand from her chin.
I looked down the telephone and contemplated how I could pick up the receiver and redial the number she had called. But I wouldn’t. I knew I wouldn’t like the outcome. ’I love him.’ I had heard her say. The words repeated in my mind, and a quiet anger grew in me. The Carrington boy.
My eye twitched as I looked down at her. I felt triggered.
Immediately, I lowered myself and picked her up from the chair and into my arms.
"I thought I told you not to touch me!" She then complained and struggled in my arms. I didn’t respond, nor did I let her go as I began to walk with her.
And you knew you were not supposed to run away, looks like we both don’t listen, I thought to myself.
"Keith, I was going to come back. I didn’t run away, I can walk," she told me.
I tightened my grip on her to let her know what my answer was. I was yet to understand why she didn’t run away.
