"Jasmine," the other waiter called out to her. Further confirming my suspicions.
Jasmine was here! I thought to myself excitedly. Wait, why was Jasmine here?
I then suddenly felt a wetness on my leg and looked down and found she had dropped the drink she was about to serve me all over me. I had been so distracted I hadn’t realized.
She’s just a beautiful as I remembered her. Just a bit more mature, Stop—stop these thoughts I told myself
Act calm. Act normal. Or else she’ll think of you as a child.
"Jasmine is that you?" I asked her but I knew it was her.
"Yes, it’s me Louis," she replied.
Immediately, I noticed she seemed anxious and tired-looking. I found myself feeling furious. What was Chairman Acland doing to you? I wondered. Why are you working as a waitress? Why do you look so worn out?
I knew of her current situation. That her husband had a mistress and was prioritizing her. Word had spread among the socialites about how jealous and crazy Jasmine was. I wasn’t sure what to think after hearing of these rumors. That didn’t sound like the Jasmine I knew. However, looking at Jasmine here in front of me now, I was sure those rumors couldn’t be true.
I wanted to ask her what was going on with her, however as I talked to her I noticed she seemed reluctant to speak and seemed uncomfortable.
I’m such an idiot I thought to myself. Of course she’d be worried and nervous to talk to you. It’s been years since you last talked. I decided the best course of action was not to pressure her and make her feel comfortable.
I offered to pick up her son and take them home instead. Once I had her and her son taken home she seemed more relaxed. As I walked her to her house I then tried to ask her about her situation again.
She told me she wasn’t being abused and not to worry however, I couldn’t help but feel she was saying that so I wouldn’t worry.
Knowing Jasmine who thought of others before herself she was probably more worried about bothering me. I internally sighed she hadn’t gotten rid of that bad habit of hers after all these years. Unfortunately, I couldn’t force her to rely on me so I decided for us to exchange our numbers.
After our reunion, Initially I had someone watch her for a little while. Just to make sure she was alright, my spy informed me that she didn’t seem to be in any immediate danger.
I had imagined Chairman Acland was going to her home and putting his hands on her or something. I began to feel weird for stalking her. Was I intruding her space? I ended up telling my spy to stop.
I wanted to help her but I didn’t want to intrude and feel like I was overstepping. The last thing I would want is to upset her. But I just had a gut feeling that the situation might be worse than what she had told me. I mean the fact he was planning on divorcing her and planning to make his illegitimate son the heir was bad enough as it is.
What can I do to take away your worries Jasmine? I asked myself.
I’m going to divorce him, she explained. Those words gave me the biggest internal smile. Was I being insensitive being happy when I should be solely focused on consoling her?
"I would like to ask for your help in protecting my son and I," she asked me.
"Of course," I immediately agreed with no hesitation. I had been trying to get her to let me help her.
I would do everything in my power to protect her.
On the other hand, perhaps this was now my chance. Thank you Chairman Acland for fucking up. Thank you Jasmine for working at my restaurant. This was my chance, if I wanted her to be mine in the future. I wasn’t going to let it slip away.
Maybe wishes really do come true. You’re the one who taught me all about it, Jasmine.
But before that I would have to ensure her safety first. I had to play it cool and play the role of her friend until I felt the time was right.
