Ever since Chloe Thorne had taken Snowy to the animal hospital, she hadn't contacted Lyra Lennox for days.

Lyra wasn't entirely sure what the situation was.

Having some free time today, she finally got the chance to check in.

[Snowy is totally fine now! I've been busy with other things the past couple of days. How about you? Is everything going smoothly?]

Lyra already had a pretty good guess. Her fingers flew across the keyboard as she replied.

[I'm perfectly fine. I actually reached out last time because I wanted to talk to you about your dad.]

After the message was sent, a long moment passed without a reply. Then, Chloe simply called her directly.

Lyra answered, put the phone on speaker, and tossed it onto her bed.

"You saw him."

Lyra could hear the faint trace of tension in Chloe's voice.

The relationship between the father and daughter was far more strained than she had imagined.

"Yeah, I ran into him at a banquet recently. He brought you up and shared some of his thoughts."

Lyra let out a helpless sigh.

"You both care about each other deeply, but neither of you is willing to admit it."

On the other end of the line, Chloe let out a resigned laugh. "That just proves I'm his biological daughter. Our personalities are exactly the same."

"Alright, alright, no need to act tough. Whenever something goes wrong, your first instinct is always to go home, but your stubbornness always makes you turn away right at the doorstep. In that regard, you two are actually a little different."

Lyra's tone was full of reflection as she spoke.

"If you have some free time, just go home for a visit. Trust me, it won't be as bad as you think."

Chloe didn't respond, seemingly weighing the truth of those words.

On second thought, Lyra had never lied to her.
