With that, Lyra glanced back at her parents before turning and heading upstairs.
Watching her leave, Miles looked down at the bandages on his knuckles. A soft smile touched his lips before he also stood up.
"Mom, Dad, you should get some rest too. I just came back to grab a few things, I'll be leaving shortly."
He had never intended to stay the night at the manor.
He certainly hadn't expected to run into that chaotic scene at the front gates.
But looking back, he was incredibly thankful he had shown up tonight.
Harrison could clearly sense the emotional distance Miles was putting between them. Remembering the documents Miles had handed him in the study the other day, a heavy knot formed in his chest.
No matter the circumstances, they had been father and son for years. It was impossible for there to be no emotional bond.
Seeing that Miles was about to leave, Harrison spoke up. "Miles, come to my study. We need to talk."
Miles offered a quiet nod.
He followed Harrison up the stairs, the two men walking in silence.
Watching them disappear down the hallway, Eleanor let out a helpless sigh, knowing there was absolutely nothing she could do to fix this.
Inside the study.
Harrison walked in first and stood before the floor-to-ceiling windows. Hearing Miles enter, he let out a heavy sigh.
"Have you really made up your mind?"
Miles lowered his gaze, a fleeting glimmer of sorrow passing through his eyes. By the time he looked back up, his expression was perfectly composed.
