Since Cecilia had already read her mind, Lyra didn't bother beating around the bush. She nodded. "Yes, CeCe. I've been totally in the dark since he left. You're the only connection I have to what actually went down that day. The whole 'misunderstanding' excuse he gave was obviously a lie."

Lyra paused, her eyes narrowing slightly as she pressed on.

"I need to know who it is. Who has enough power to silence him, keep him away from home, and force him to feed us that blatant lie?"

Lyra hadn't voiced her suspicions out loud before, but she wasn't stupid.

She knew Miles' character intimately. Unless he was facing an insurmountable, catastrophic threat, he would never have gone completely off the grid.
