"You!" Preston pointed a finger at Marcus, furious but momentarily tongue-tied, unable to find the right words.
Marcus scoffed softly, reached up, and grabbed Preston's fingers, bending them downward.
Preston winced in pain and tried to pull his hand back, but his strength was naturally no match for Marcus, who worked out every day.
Seeing his struggle, Marcus let out a mocking laugh.
"Remember, no matter who you are, we are definitely not on the same path."
With that, Marcus let go of his hand and turned to leave.
Watching his retreating figure, Preston's face darkened, his eyes filling with an even more vicious glare.
But soon enough, his attention was drawn to Cecilia Chambers.
A slow smile curved onto his lips, and he walked over to her.
Meanwhile.
In the hallway.
Lyra pulled Miles along by the hand.
Miles followed closely, his eyes glued to her hand.
How long had it been?
Since she started high school, they hadn't been the way they used to be.
When they were kids, she used to trail behind him, always claiming she was going to be his wife.
But then, she married Maxwell.
And after so many things happened, the situation had long since spiraled out of control.
Where would they end up?
No one could know the answer until the very end.
"I have no interest in her."
Miles chose to break the silence first.
Lyra stopped walking, turned around, and leaned against the windowsill behind her, just looking at him, as if waiting for him to elaborate.
