Lyra scoffed coldly. "Save the excuses. What are you thinking, and what exactly do you want? Just spit it out."
"It seems in your eyes, I'm just that awful of a person."
Hearing this, Lyra stood up and looked down at Marcus.
"I don't care what your motives are, but let me make this clear: stay away from me."
Leaving those words behind, she turned and walked toward the exit.
Marcus lingered for a moment before following her without hesitation.
Not far away, four sets of eyes tracked them until they were out of sight.
Lyra and Marcus stepped out of the banquet hall one after the other.
She had planned to get straight into her car and leave, but the annoying shadow trailing her was starting to get on her nerves.
She finally stopped, turned around, and faced him.
"What do you want?"
Anyone watching would think he was some hopelessly devoted lover, relentlessly chasing after her.
Seeing the absolute rejection on her face, Marcus suddenly burst into laughter.
"What if I told you I want to get close to you and pursue you because I like you?"
Lyra stared at him for a long time, her expression basically screaming, "Are you kidding me?"
"I know I might be saying this a little late, but it's the truth. If it hadn't been for Maxwell, I would have been the one going to the Lennox family to ask for your hand."
A self-deprecating smile touched his lips.
"Don't forget, back in school, we were the two people everyone revolved around."
