Chapter 275
“So, how do you explain Viola?” Ethan asked bluntly.
Sunlight streamed through the leaves, shadows shifting across his face, making his expression unreadable. His gaze was sharp, almost predatory, fixed squarely on Marcus.
Marcus had to admit–his brother–in–law was no ordinary man. Under Ethan’s stare, lies were impossible.
“I have nothing to hide about Viola,” Marcus said firmly. His voice carried conviction.
“She left the country years ago. It wasn’t what I wanted. As for her and me… I have no regrets.” His eyes dimmed for a moment before he
lowered them, concealing the darkness there.
Ethan’s hands curled tightly into fists.
“Marcus, if Sophie suffers even the slightest harm, I’ll make sure you pay for it. I’ll drag the Morgans down. I’ll drag Hills down too. Even if it
ruins me.”
From anyone else, Marcus would have laughed. But this was Ethan Chandler–the man business circles in South America called a predator,
ruthless and unstoppable. He never failed at what he set his mind to.
Marcus smiled faintly, lips curving in calm defiance.
“You have my word. Sophie won’t be hurt. Not even a little.”
Ethan pinched the bridge of his nose, gave a cold snort, and walked away with his drink.
Marcus sat frozen for a long while, Ethan’s words echoing in his head like a rising flood. Could he really protect Sophie from everything? Viola was not someone who forgave easily. This would not be simple.
He forced the thoughts away and returned upstairs.
In Sophie’s room, the gloom melted instantly from his face. He smiled as he saw her leaning against the bed, a prenatal book resting on her lap.
“What were you‘ and Ethan talking about?” she asked, setting the book aside and slipping her arms around his neck as he sat down.
“Just whether you want to stay home after the birth, or go to a maternity center,” Marcus lied smoothly, burying his face in the curve of her neck.
Sophie thought for a moment, then wrapped her arms around his waist.
“I think… a maternity center would be better.”
Marcus didn’t hesitate.
“Done. We’ll look at some tomorrow.”
That night, he barely slept. Years of training had taught him to get by on little rest, but this time, it wasn’t work keeping him up–it was the thought of Sophie.
By morning, he had already acted. While she thought they were just going for a tour, Marcus had instructed his secretary to acquire an entire maternity center. Two hours later, the deal was done. Efficiency at its finest.
“Carrying twins will be exhausting,” Sophie murmured on the way, glancing at her belly, which seemed larger by the day.

Marcus squeezed her hand, his voice steady.
“Then we’ll make sure you never feel it. However many people you want around you, you’ll have them.”
She laughed at his seriousness.
At the center, the manager personally greeted them.
“Welcome, Sophie, Mr. Morgan.”
The place was luxurious, every service tailored to their needs.
“Don’t worry, Sophie. We’ve already synced with Dr. Mason’s medical database. Our nutritionists will adjust your meals according to every change in your health reports. We also have specialized programs designed for twins,” the manager explained, handing her a tablet.
Sophie glanced sideways at Marcus.
He leaned close, whispering into her ear.
“I might not be able to do everything myself. But money can. And making money–well, that’s my specialty.”
He smirked, pleased with himself.
Just then, his phone rang. He glanced at the screen, lowered his voice.
“Take your time. I’ll just step out for a call.”
Sophie nodded and went back to the presentation.
But a sharp, mocking voice suddenly cut through the quiet.
“Well, well. Look who it is again.”
The sound of stiletto heels echoed on the floor. Sophie didn’t need to look–she already knew.
Michelle Nelson.
“You’re finally listening to advice, huh?” Michelle sneered. “Told you to stay home and focus on the baby, but here you are shopping for a fancy recovery center.”
Sophie leaned back against the couch, unbothered. She had never understood Michelle’s arrogance. Banished from Falyon for her crimes, with no one backing her here, yet she still dared provoke Marcus’s wife?
“Michelle,” Sophie said coolly, “I do wonder… who’s the one behind you?”
Michelle smirked, hands on her hips.
“Someone you’ll never reach in your lifetime.”
If that was true, Sophie thought dryly, then that person couldn’t be worth much.
She rose, uninterested in further sparring. But Michelle stepped forward, gripping her arm with sharp nails digging into her skin.
“Hey, I wasn’t finished.”
“Let go,” Sophie said flatly.
Michelle only tightened her grip. Pain stabbed Sophie’s arm.

With a sudden twist, Sophie yanked her arm free. Michelle stumbled back, falling heavily–but not before clawing at Sophie’s dress and dragging
her off balance.
Sophie’s body tilted dangerously-
“You bitch!” Michelle’s curse rang down the corridor.
Then, in a flash, Marcus was there. Strong arms caught Sophie’s waist, stopping her fall.
The weightless drop vanished. Her eyes widened as relief swept through her.
The sound of Michelle hitting the floor cracked sharply.
“You’re nothing but bad luck, Sophie!” Michelle spat, crumpled on the ground.
