Strong arms steadied Sophie from behind, pulling her firmly into a familiar embrace.

Held tight against Marcus’s chest, she looked up just as his cold gaze landed on Michelle Nelson sprawled across the floor.

“Who is she?” Marcus asked, voice low and sharp.

The manager bowed quickly. “Mr. Morgan, we apologize for our oversight. An outsider slipped in. We’ll have her removed immediately.”

At his signal, security closed in.

Michelle began to struggle, but Sophie raised a hand. “Wait. Why not send her straight back to Falyon? Hiding here won’t save her. Your brother already paid the price for your mess. If anyone’s a curse, Michelle, it’s you.”

Sophie stood tall, eyes downcast with quiet authority.

“Honey, I’ll have to trouble you to make sure she faces justice,” she added softly to Marcus.

They ignored her.

“Marcus!” she shrieked, desperation twisting her voice. “You think getting rid of me will make Viola spare you?”

The name hit like a bolt of lightning. Marcus froze, eyes narrowing with lethal intensity.

“You’ll pay for what you did to her! If she suffered, Sophie will suffer the same!” Michelle’s curse echoed even as her voice dwindled with

distance.

Marcus’s fists clenched, veins rising stark against his skin.

“Viola,” Marcus began slowly, rubbing his palms together, “was my first girlfriend.”

The words hung in the air. Sophie froze, stunned.

“Sweetheart-” Marcus reached for her.
