George had been making deliveries and happened to be near Sienna's office. Realizing it was lunchtime, he asked his daughter out for a meal.
Sienna wrapped up her tasks, headed downstairs, and walked to the restaurant her dad had mentioned.
George had already ordered a massive spread, completely catering to his daughter's tastes.
Sienna loved spicy food. Looking across the wooden circular table, practically every dish was a vibrant, fiery red.
Having not seen his daughter for a few days, George chuckled happily, sharing bizarre and funny stories from his time at the restaurant while they ate.
He joked that in his old age, he had finally become a free spirit.
If he had known life could be this fun, he would have quit his factory job years ago.
George was playing it off, but Sienna knew her dad better than anyone. He had dedicated his entire life to that factory. Sometimes, he would come home and study blueprints under a desk lamp until dawn.
He loved his work. He had been proud of it.
Sienna didn't interrupt him. She just kept her head down, picking at her food, a sour ache blooming in her chest.
The food was incredibly spicy, and inevitably, it stung the raw wound on her lip.
She hissed in pain, grabbing a few napkins to dab at her mouth.
The sudden movement broke George's storytelling. He craned his neck, noticing something was off.
"Sienna, what happened to your lip? Did you bump into something?"
Sienna quickly nodded. "Yeah, I got up to use the bathroom last night and didn't look where I was going. Walked right into the door frame..."
George frowned, gently scolding her. "You're always rushing around. Be more careful."
Sienna nodded obediently.
-
The restaurant was close to the office, so Sienna hadn't driven.
After lunch, George dropped her off on his way out.
As she stepped out of the car, she bumped into Rena Young and a few other colleagues returning from their own lunch break.
They enthusiastically hurried over to say hello, their eyes lingering on the taillights of the departing car.
