It was obviously Nathaniel Yale!
She gasped sharply, completely forgetting that she couldn't put weight on her foot. Hopping on one leg, she wedged herself right between them, shielding Jorrod with her body.
"Y-y-you! What are you doing here?"
Jorrod furrowed his thick brows, catching her arm so she could lean her weight against him.
Nathaniel's gaze swept meaningfully across both their faces.
His lips twitched, and he suddenly smiled.
"Just coming to see you, Sienna." He lifted the fruit basket in his hand. "I heard you sprained your ankle, so I came to check on you."
His eyes abruptly zeroed in on Jorrod's face.
Sienna's heart gave a violent lurch as she watched him. "H-h-he's..."
"Hello there, I'm Sienna's coworker, Nathaniel Yale. And you are...?"
Huh?
He didn't recognize him?
The two men stood facing each other. One was completely expressionless, the other wore a superficial smile.
Wordlessly, the only thing they exchanged was a gaze that felt like crossing swords.
Seeing those thin lips part.
Sienna snapped back to reality and slapped her hand right over Jorrod's mouth.
"Carter! His last name is Carter!"
Jorrod frowned, shooting her a sidelong glance.
He had heard that Sienna's ex-boyfriend's last name was Carter. It was the same man in that framed photo in her bedroom, the one where they were posing so intimately.
He guessed this makeshift surname was pulled straight from that guy.
Jorrod didn't want to use that identity.
He minded it deeply.
But suddenly, a hand caught his left one, squeezing it twice.
