Inside the office.
Nathaniel hadn't gone straight home. Instead, he headed back to the company.
It was past nine o'clock, so besides the staff working overtime, the office was mostly empty.
He leaned back in his office chair, a glossy magazine spread open on his lap, looking deeply engrossed.
Rowena went to get some water. Carrying her cup, she passed right behind him, stopped in her tracks, and teased, "Oh my, did our little prince get triggered by seeing Sienna and her boyfriend so in love? You finally starting to work hard for once?"
Rowena knew Nathaniel's father. She had been the class president under his instruction back in college, so she spoke freely with this rebellious professor's son.
She had easily seen through all of Nathaniel's unprompted devotion over the past few days.
And she knew his request for time off today was entirely so he could visit the 'sister' in the Admin Department named Sienna.
Nathaniel didn't look up. He tapped his temple with his index finger and didn't deny it. "Yeah. Working hard."
It was only then that Rowena noticed.
The glossy magazine he was looking at wasn't a jewelry catalog.
It was *The Stellaris Exclusive* from a few months ago.
Right there on the prominent front page was a full-body shot of their CEO, Mr. Vaughn.
The picture was taken from a distance and wasn't entirely crisp. All it showed was a man in a tailored suit, his long legs casually crossed as he sank into a black leather sofa. He had sharp features and wire-rimmed glasses resting on his nose. Even from afar, his broad shoulders, narrow waist, and undeniable presence commanded attention.
Rowena tsked. "Why are you suddenly reading this? What, decided you don't want to be a star anymore and want to run a corporation instead?"
Nathaniel ignored the question, steering the conversation like a casual chat. "Rowena, I just noticed that the mole under Mr. Vaughn's eye actually looks really cool. I kind of want to get one tattooed. Do you think it would suit me?"
What mole? Rowena stared at him, bewildered.
Leaning in, she scrutinized the magazine photo.
"Are you blind? Where is there a mole?"
She even used to wonder how his brain was actually wired.
But these endless, bizarre questions...
"Mr. Vaughn this, Mr. Vaughn that. What's going on? You gave up stalking Sienna and decided to study our boss instead?"
Nathaniel replied smoothly, "Oh, I just haven't been performing well at work, and I'm worried Mr. Vaughn might complain to my dad. But then I figured, since he hasn't seen me much, maybe he wouldn't remember me."
"Then you're definitely overthinking it. With that bleach-blonde hair of yours, his memory of you is guaranteed to last at least ten years."
Hearing this, Nathaniel lowered his eyes, seemingly deep in thought.
Then, he let out a sudden, sharp laugh.
"Interesting."
Rowena was completely lost by Nathaniel's disjointed remarks. "What's so interesting? Are you looking for a thrill? I really can't understand a word you kids say anymore."
