Nathaniel ignored her. "Rowena, let me ask you something. I have a friend whose memory got a little messed up—like confusion or amnesia. Do you know which hospital in Aurelia has the best neurology department?"
"Neurology, huh." Rowena thought for a moment. "Well, you asked the right person. My high school teacher's wife is a top specialist in that field. I know her very well. Usually, people beg for months just to get an appointment."
She clapped her hands together. "Oh! I think she even had dinner with your dad once. Hold on, I'll get you her business card."
Nathaniel's eyes curved into a bright smile. He stood up, opened his arms, and gave Rowena a tight, thoroughly sincere hug.
"Thanks. You're the best, seriously."
"What about that other girl you liked so much?"
"Don't need her. You're the only one for me."
"Smooth talker. But wait a second, who is this friend you're talking about? A classmate? How could they lose their memory? Did they hit their head?"
You couldn't blame Rowena for being nosy. This sounded like the plot of a soap opera. When you ran into something like this in real life, you naturally wanted the details.
But Nathaniel just let her go, shook his head, tucked the magazine away, and slung his bag over his shoulder.
"I can't tell you, or my favorite lady will get mad."
"???"
Rowena stared blankly at the young man's retreating back.
Didn't he just say he didn't need her?
Didn't he just say she was the only one?
And besides...
What did this have to do with Sienna anyway???
"You kid, why do you talk in riddles?"
"I'm a man."
"You're not even twenty. Calling yourself a man..."
"A full-grown man who is legally over eighteen."
"Fine, fine. Hurry up and go home, you adult man."

Originally, Sienna thought this week would be agonizing.
Surprisingly, it flew by much faster than she imagined.
Today, their interactions were much quieter than the past few days.
Jorrod still took care of her every need flawlessly, but it was like someone had pressed the mute button on him. He hadn't called her name even once.
Sienna also fell silent.
Wasn't this exactly what she had been waiting for?
Why did it feel so suffocating now that the day had finally arrived? It had to be force of habit. Yes, it was definitely just habit.
That afternoon, Jorrod went to massage her leg as usual.
Sienna turned him down.
"Let's skip it. It honestly doesn't hurt that much anymore, and I'll be able to walk on it soon anyway."
Jorrod didn't try to insist. After meeting her eyes, he sat in silence for a few seconds before softly saying, "Okay."
Sienna added, "Tonight, you should sleep in your own room. Silas is coming early tomorrow. It wouldn't be good if he saw us."
She didn't want to look at his expression.
She only heard another soft, "Okay," fall from above her.
