His expression was serious, his tone humble yet resolute. "Mr. Quinn, I am completely serious about Sienna. I don't expect you to accept me right now, but I beg you to give me a chance. Let me prove myself, and prove that Sienna didn't choose the wrong man."
Anyone could spout pretty words. George scoffed, looking down to peel an apple for his wife without sparing Jorrod a single glance.
"As for your concerns about the business, I won't hide it from you. My memory has been slightly compromised, but I swear, once I recover, I will do everything..."
"Wait a minute." George paused, cutting him off.
Jorrod nodded. "Yes, sir."
George frowned. "What do you mean your memory is compromised?"
Sienna hurriedly chimed in, offering a brief explanation of Jorrod's current medical condition.
George nearly laughed out of sheer frustration.
He didn't remember anything?
So all that yelling, all those insults he had just hurled at Jorrod's face... the kid didn't even remember the history between them?!
He had just wasted all that breath on a blank slate!
"I don't care what's wrong with your head. The bottom line is, I will never approve of this relationship. Break it off with Sienna now while your memory is still shot, because once you recover, I won't be able to take you in a fight."
"Dad, just observe him for a little longer, please? I watched him for a long time before agreeing to be with him."
George truly hated playing the villain and breaking up a young couple.
But this was Jorrod Vaughn.
He had been wanting to take a bat to the man for ages.
Listening to the two of them plead their case in his ear, George gave up on peeling the apple and slammed it down toward the fruit basket.
He used too much force. The peeled apple crashed into the plate, sending a splash of fruit juice flying right into Lillian Douglas's eye.
To think that such a priceless treasure was reduced to "dark and dirty-looking" in his daughter's eyes.
"Mr. Quinn, that gourd is mine."
Jorrod's quiet voice immediately drew the attention of all three family members.
George snatched his hand back as if burned, leaning hard against the sofa cushions and crossing his arms over his chest. He forced himself to look away.
Sienna gasped in surprise. "You had that on you this whole time? How did I not see it?"
Jorrod gave her hand a gentle squeeze, shooting her a meaningful look beneath his lowered lashes. Sienna caught the hint and clamped her mouth shut, waiting for him to speak.
"Mr. Quinn, if you like it, it's yours."
George scoffed, waving a dismissive hand. "Stop right there. Don't think you can bribe me with trinkets. I'm not falling for that trap."
Jorrod didn't push the issue. He simply gave a polite nod.
