Sienna walked over to the balcony and looked up at the sky. "It's actually raining. I didn't see anything on the forecast. Earlier, I gave my parents..."
As she spoke, she turned around.
In that exact second, a pair of strong arms slipped around her from behind, pulling her into a sudden, engulfing embrace. Sienna's vision remained fixed on the window, but her back was instantly enveloped by the searing heat of his broad chest. She instinctively stiffened.
Jorrod didn't say a word. He just held her quietly, his arms locked tight around her waist as if terrified she might slip away.
He buried his chin in the crook of her neck, his voice turning husky as he murmured, "Sienna."
His warm breath washed over her skin, and Sienna instantly melted into him.
She swallowed hard, trying to keep her tone casual as she brought up the events of the day.
"When did you secretly study all that antique stuff? Was it just over the last few days?"
Jorrod maintained his hold on her, shaking his head slightly against her shoulder. "When you mentioned Elara Vance gave your dad ancient coins, I started studying up in secret. I did find the gourd at the antique market a few days ago. It was a lucky find."
Sienna gasped softly. "But we were broken up back then, weren't we?"
"Yeah... but learning it couldn't hurt. If I could use it to spark a conversation with your father, then it would be worth it. I thought it might give me an excuse to see you again."
Sienna fell silent.
In reality, it hadn't just been useful; it had been the absolute critical factor in winning her father over.
She teased him softly. "You're quite the schemer, aren't you?"
Jorrod didn't fully grasp the accusation. Was that really scheming? His original intention had simply been to use whatever methods he had available to fight for what he wanted. To him, it was just a strategy.
"Do you... hate that?"
Hearing the sudden panic and insecurity in his voice, Sienna realized she had to soothe the anxious puppy. "It's fine. I don't hate it. Just don't try to play me."
"Besides." She turned around in his arms, her back pressing against the cold glass of the window. She looked up into Jorrod's eyes, swiftly changing the subject.
"An excuse? A chance to see me? Even if it meant I had to call you 'Boss' like my dad wanted?"
Jorrod lowered his gaze, staring at the woman trapped in his arms.
The warm, amber glow of the apartment lights reflected in her eyes, making them look like sun-drenched pools of water—bright, warm, and stunningly clear.
