I Fell for the Man Who Ruined Me, Then He Forgot He Ever Loved Me Back novel Chapter 176

Nathaniel ignored her warning, merely replying, "I bet you once said you weren't interested in 'Jorrod Vaughn', either."

Sienna had nothing to say to that.

After a long silence, she stood up abruptly.

She walked a few steps to the nearest trash can and unceremoniously dumped the cake inside.

Nathaniel stood up, sliding his hands into his pockets as he casually strolled over. "Come on. Let me take you out for a drink to clear your head."

"No thanks."

Sienna rejected the offer.

The reason was simple. Drinking to blow off steam from work was one thing, but drinking over a heartbreak just sounded pitiful.

And if she ended up getting sloppy drunk?

She'd be both crazy and pitiful.

She didn't bother chatting with Nathaniel any further. Making an excuse about heading home, she actually checked into a nearby motel for the night.

The next morning.

Sienna went to the office as usual.

At the entrance, she coincidentally ran into Mindy Monroe, who had arrived uncharacteristically early.

Mindy waved at her in greeting and hurried over.

Sienna smiled. "You're here early today."

It was a fair question. Mindy lived far away and usually hit the worst of the morning traffic. She was notorious for sliding in exactly on time; Sienna had never seen her this proactive.

Mindy leaned in close, lowering her voice to gossip. "It's all because..."

Suddenly, Mindy clamped her mouth shut, cutting off the gossip entirely.

"Because of what?" Sienna asked, confused.

"Inform everyone that today's meeting is bumped up. Make sure the files are sent to my inbox before eight."

A man was striding forward, with an assistant trailing half a step behind, nodding rapidly at his boss's orders.

The deep voice was shockingly familiar.

Later that morning, Sienna sat in front of her computer.

Minimized at the bottom of her screen was a resignation letter.

Having to stare at the very face that had whispered countless sweet nothings to her, now walking past her like a complete stranger every day, was far too agonizing.

Out of respect for her colleagues, she was determined to tie up the loose ends of her current projects. It had been her protocol at Syllable Studio, and it would be the same at Stellaris Corp.

Just as the lunch break approached, Mindy rushed back from upstairs, pulled out her chair, and aggressively flopped down.

After taking a few seconds to catch her breath, she subtly scooted closer to Sienna.

"Mr. Vaughn feels even more untouchable since he got back," Mindy complained in a hushed whisper. "I just went upstairs and heard from Joanna Miller in the Design Department that Mr. Vaughn threw an absolute fit in the conference room this morning. It was terrifying."

Sienna turned to look at her.

"Apparently, it was over a proposal that was due at the end of last month. We're already halfway through this month, and the team is still doing endless revisions without delivering a final product."

"But you can't really blame them. Everyone slacked off significantly while Mr. Vaughn was away, and the whole company's pace dragged as a result."

Mindy patted her chest and let out a huge sigh of relief. "Thank God we're not management. I'd literally quit on the spot if I had to face Mr. Vaughn's interrogation."
