I Fell for the Man Who Ruined Me, Then He Forgot He Ever Loved Me Back novel Chapter 196

Sienna Quinn guessed that her antagonistic elevator conversation with Jorrod Vaughn the day before had really ticked him off.

Otherwise, why would he have looked at her like that?

It wasn't the distant apathy reserved for strangers, but a calculated, predatory gaze that suggested he wanted to rip her apart.

She hadn't seen that look in a long time.

It brought her right back to the night she had first brought him home.

He had given her that exact same stare when she was being a smart-ass back then.

She couldn't be bothered to deal with him.

At noon, Sienna had originally planned to head downstairs to the newly opened restaurant with Mindy Monroe.

An unexpected phone call completely derailed her plans.

By the time she arrived at the upscale restaurant, the man had already ordered and was waiting for her.

Seeing her approach, he stood and pulled out a chair for her like a true gentleman.

"Please, have a seat."

Sienna stared at his face.

Honestly, he looked nothing like Jorrod, nor did he bear much resemblance to his father, Theron Vaughn. Only his imposing height offered a faint hint of the Vaughn family genetics.

Zachary Vaughn poured her a glass of water.

He clicked his tongue. "I really don't know who my brother takes after. It's one thing to be ruthless toward his own flesh and blood, but to toss aside his live-in girlfriend without an ounce of mercy? That's just cold."

Sienna lowered her gaze. The water in her glass swayed gently, sending tiny ripples across the surface.

She looked up. "I don't know what you're talking about."

Zachary chuckled, shaking his head. "The fact that you showed up proves you know exactly what I mean."

Sienna offered a deadpan smile. "I came because this restaurant is ridiculously expensive. If we were splitting the check, I would have stayed at the office."

"Don't you want to get back at him? We can work together. We can tear Jorrod down and ruin his life."

Sienna finally spoke up. "But aren't you his brother?"

Zachary brushed past the question. "Don't worry about that. All you need to know is that we share a mutual enemy. And the enemy of my enemy is my friend."

Sienna looked up, meeting his gaze through the thin air between them.

Suddenly, a soft smile touched her lips.

"How exactly would this partnership work?" she asked.

Looking thoroughly satisfied, Zachary pulled a neat stack of documents from beneath the table.

Sienna flipped it open. It was a comprehensive contract detailing the obligations, clauses, and penalties for a breach of agreement.

The gist of it was simple: she was to sleep her way back into Jorrod's bed, act as Zachary's corporate spy, and in return, she would receive a payout large enough to live comfortably for the rest of her life.

"Everything is laid out clearly. It protects both of our interests. Considering you and Jorrod used to be deeply in love, I need a guarantee that you won't double-cross me."
