I Fell for the Man Who Ruined Me, Then He Forgot He Ever Loved Me Back novel Chapter 223

The very first thing Jorrod saw when he opened his eyes was a broom inexplicably sitting on the back of his hand.

"It was probably on the nightstand, and I must have knocked it over when I rolled over in my sleep." Sienna considerately pulled it off for him. "Oh no, look, it left a mark on you. I'm so clumsy."

Jorrod shot her a look, entirely too lazy to call out her blatant lie. He pulled his hand back, looked down to smooth the wrinkles out of his clothes, and got up to leave the room.

Sienna straightened out the bedsheets and got up to wash her face.

She originally planned to head to the kitchen and help Quincy with some chores, but he immediately shooed her out. "Wait there and save your strength. I've got chores assigned for the both of you."

Naturally, Sienna assumed it would be gathering eggs again. Brushing it off, she went out to the yard and sat on a small stool to soak up the sun.

Outside, the sun was already high in the sky, glaring brilliantly and washing the entire yard in a comforting warmth.

She sat directly in the sunlight, squinting slightly, letting the toasty rays soak into her skin and warm her bones.

Honestly, staying here was pretty comfortable.

She got an expense allowance, made extra cash gathering eggs—which paid out way more than her actual job.

If only her boss wasn't breathing down her neck.

A boss who practically watched her while she slept.

Otherwise, this was basically her absolute dream business trip.

People's minds change fast, or at least Sienna's did.

It was only after breakfast that she learned from Jorrod that the 'chores assigned for the both of you' Quincy mentioned actually meant shoveling horse manure in the stables.

Just as she was desperately hoping for a break on the third day.

The assignment for the third day was feeding pigs and shoveling their crap.

She prayed in absolute despair for the fourth day to arrive.

The employer moved them onto the sheep.

She was truly exhausted.

And she truly smelled terrible.

"Your Uncle Quincy is running an entire ecosystem."

"Then when are you going to bring up that thing?"

Sienna was purely being nosy. She saw Jorrod pause, but he didn't say a word.

Since he wasn't talking, she didn't feel like aggressively prying. After all, it was just a casual question driven by curiosity. She went back to scooping crap.

That night, Sienna had no intention of sleeping on the bed.

Glancing at the headboard Jorrod leaned against every night, she said, "You take the bed tonight. I'm not tired, I want to go for a walk outside."

Leaving the statement hanging, Sienna didn't even wait for him to respond before pushing the door open and heading into the yard.

The moon was extremely bright tonight, hanging coldly in the sky. The entire yard was washed in a silvery-white glow, making it look as though it had been scrubbed clean. The gravel on the ground was coated in a thin layer of frost, reflecting the light like crystal.

Sienna sat on the stool from earlier that day, tilting her head back to look at the sky, letting her mind go completely blank.

"I heard from Jorrod that you two are leaving tomorrow morning?"

Sienna turned her head to see Quincy standing beside her with his hands behind his back. The moonlight highlighted his figure, glinting off the gold-rimmed reading glasses perched on his nose as he looked down at her.
