"What... what's wrong with her?"
Mindy was still furious and wanted nothing more than to blast Rena to the group, but remembering the sheer terror in Jorrod's eyes forced her to bite her tongue. She swallowed her rant.
"Let's just say her nosiness finally caught up with her," Mindy muttered.
Speaking of gossip, the oblivious coworkers immediately zeroed in on the missing person. "Wait, where's Sienna? Did she leave? Did her boyfriend actually pick her up? Well? Was he hot?"
"He was apparently so hot he made Rena cry," Mindy said dryly.
She fully intended to take the horrific shock of seeing the CEO to her grave.
She still wasn't entirely sure if the text had been sent to the wrong person.
But one thing was undeniably clear: the rare spark of emotion and unprecedented patience Mr. Vaughn had displayed proved that Sienna was far more than just a regular employee.
Mindy shook her head and let out a heavy sigh.
How was she supposed to survive going to work, knowing the coworker she constantly trash-talked the boss with was probably sleeping with him?
-
The night breeze was bracing. Sienna, thoroughly intoxicated, had a flushed, feverish complexion.
Jorrod kept her securely wrapped in his coat, carrying her all the way to his car.
He settled her into the passenger seat, strapping her in tightly so she wouldn't slump over, before rounding the hood and climbing behind the wheel.
The door slammed shut.
The heavy steel instantly cut off the howling wind outside.
In the confined cabin, the silence was absolute. Slowly, the temperature began to rise.
Jorrod didn't start the engine immediately. He rested a hand casually on the steering wheel and turned his head, his gaze locked on the woman slumped against the seat.
A few strands of her hair had fallen across her face. Jorrod reached out, his thumb gently grazing her cheek as he tucked the loose strands behind her ear.
When he received the message on his phone...
He had just stepped out of the shower, vigorously drying his hair.
His phone was resting on his pillow. He stopped at the edge of the bed, picked it up, and the moment he read the text, the specific term of endearment genuinely stunned him.
