I Fell for the Man Who Ruined Me, Then He Forgot He Ever Loved Me Back novel Chapter 245

The apartment was pitch black and dead silent.

Relying entirely on muscle memory, Jorrod slapped the wall switch. Bright, stark light instantly flooded the room.

The drive had been a blur of adrenaline, but here, in this quiet space filled only with their breathing, reality crashed down. The woman in his arms felt as limp as a sponge soaked in liquor. She had buried her face into the crook of his neck, and when the bright light flared, she let out a soft whine, pressing herself even tighter against him.

Her scorching breath cascaded rhythmically against the sensitive skin of his neck. His entire body locked up tight.

A person's preferences could apparently shift over time.

He had always been disgusted by the smell of alcohol, but mixed with Sienna's natural scent, the air between them smelled intoxicatingly sweet.

It was sweet, but the kind of sweet that made a man reckless.

The bedroom lighting was far softer than the living room's harsh glare. A dim, orange glow painted the cream-colored sheets in a warm, inviting honey hue.

It was the bed he had bought for her.

Looking at it now, it seemed absurdly large. The massive frame looked entirely out of place in such a cramped apartment.

Jorrod stopped at the edge of the mattress and bent to lower her down.

But Sienna wasn't having it. Instinctively, she locked her arms around his neck and dragged him down with her.

Caught completely off guard, Jorrod had to brace his hand against the mattress to stop from crushing her. The veins on the back of his hand bulged just inches from her flushed ear. Strands of her hair were tangled between his fingers. They were so close their noses were brushing.

He was close enough to see the fine peach fuzz on her cheeks illuminated under the warm bedroom light.

Jorrod stared down. His Adam's apple bobbed heavily as he fought to stabilize his ragged breathing.

With agonizing care, he pried her hands off his neck. He then moved down to her calves, slowly slipping her shoes off her feet.

This was the first time in his life Jorrod Vaughn had ever served another human being.

At least, the first time in the memories he currently possessed.

He wasn't entirely clumsy, but he was painfully inexperienced. Once the task was complete, he sat on the edge of her bed, watching her sleep, and finally let out a long breath.
