Sienna grew even more furious.
Unbelievable. He didn't understand the word 'temporarily', but he had a PhD-level grasp of the word 'wife'.
She walked over, leaned down, and looked him straight in the eye.
Poking his chest repeatedly with her fingertip, she spoke in the tone of a teacher lecturing an incredibly dense student.
"When a cat is with a mouse, no cat ever feels unsafe."
"As for liking me... Jorrod, your so-called affection is only because you're sick. Once you recover, you'll remember everything. And then? Not only will you not like me, you'll despise me. You'll hate me so much that you'll try to throw me in prison."
"And for the record, I hate you too. I hate you enough to want to throw you into the ocean."
"We can't even be the most basic of friends. Do you understand?"
The more Jorrod listened, the more his brow knotted.
He didn't understand. He didn't understand anything at all.
But after catching the repeated word 'hate', his heart twisted with painful intensity. He frantically grabbed the index finger prodding his chest, looking as if he wanted to press it there forever.
He sensed Darling's rejection and disgust toward him. Panicked and desperate, he explained repeatedly, "No, I don't hate you! I would never hate you. Please don't hate me, okay..."
His tone bordered on begging.
Sienna remained expressionless and pulled her finger back. "Save those words for when you're actually lucid."
She stood up, glaring at him. "You stay in the living room. If you're hungry, call me. If you're tired, sleep on the sofa. I'm exhausted, and I'm going back to my room to sleep. Do not call for me unless it's an emergency."
Sienna turned and left immediately, stepping into her room and slamming the door shut with a loud bang.
Leaning her back against the door, her vacant gaze landed on the neatly folded cartoon blankets. She lifted her hand, unconsciously resting it on her stomach.
The tightness caused by her reflexive reaction hadn't dissipated, and that spot still felt like it was burning hot.
Her composure was entirely fake.
Even if it hadn't been Jorrod, if any other man had kissed her right there, she wouldn't have been able to remain calm, either physically or mentally.
