Jorrod ended his call.
He gave his assistant a sharp look, and the man nodded, hurrying off to investigate.
Minutes later, the assistant rushed back. "Mr. Vaughn, the man was in a car accident and transferred from the ER. His family booked a first-class suite and completed all the paperwork, but when they arrived, the room was already occupied."
Jorrod's brow furrowed. "Occupied?"
The assistant nodded. "Deputy Director Fletcher gave the room to a relative and refuses to move them. The head nurse tried to mediate, but the only remaining options are a cramped third-class ward or a luxury VIP suite."
Jorrod's eyes darkened, but he remained silent.
A luxury VIP suite cost thousands of dollars a night. A standard recovery stay could easily bankrupt an average family.
Jorrod murmured a quick, lethal instruction to his assistant, who immediately scurried off to execute it.
-
Down the hall, the argument was losing steam.
George Quinn sat on a hallway bench, fuming.
It wasn't that he was too proud to share a third-class room; it was the blatant disrespect. He had followed every procedure, only to be shoved aside for a corrupt 'exception'.
Forcing him to accept the downgrade was infuriating.
When the nurse offered the third-class ward, she was somewhat apologetic.
But when she mentioned the VIP suite, her tone dripped with condescension.
"If our standard rooms aren't good enough, you can always book the luxury VIP suite. The amenities are fabulous, I'm sure it's perfect for a wealthy man like you."
Recalling the mockery made his blood boil. Though his leg injury wasn't life-threatening, he couldn't sit in the hallway forever.
Leaning heavily on Lillian Douglas, he stood up, fully intending to check out and find another hospital.
Suddenly, two executives sprinted toward them. The man in the lead, wearing a sharp blazer over a polo, intercepted the couple with an incredibly deferential, panicked smile.
"Mr. Quinn, please accept my deepest apologies. I'm Clarence Sutton, the Vice President of Aurelia Medical Center. I was just informed of your situation, and our board is treating this with the utmost gravity. I assure you, the blatant nepotism regarding your room assignment will be severely punished."
