Back when Jorrod Vaughn still had his wits about him, their daily interactions were always a battle of wits.
Either he had the last word, or she ruthlessly shut him down.
But right now, her words were like stones tossed into the ocean, sinking without a single ripple. It was a first.
Yet, it didn't feel as satisfying as she had imagined; instead, it just left her feeling suffocated.
She would much rather he wake up and spar with her like he used to.
Sienna Quinn didn't stay much longer. When the doctor knocked on the door to do a check-up, she took the opportunity to say goodbye to the Vaughn family.
By the time she left, it was already two in the afternoon.
She didn't head back to the office and drove straight home.
She was exhausted.
A massive wave of drowsiness washed over her. Without even taking off her coat, Sienna collapsed onto the sofa and slept straight through until nightfall.
She was woken up by a knock on the door shortly after seven in the evening.
Still half-asleep, the familiar pounding on the door echoed in the room, striking right at her chest. Her heart skipped a beat, and her drowsiness vanished instantly.
Without bothering to put on her shoes, Sienna got up and opened the door.
Standing outside was a building maintenance worker in a blue uniform.
"Hello, miss. This is the monthly satisfaction survey. Could you please take a moment to fill it out? Just mark 'satisfied'."
Sienna let out a heavy sigh.
She rubbed her throbbing temples, took the clipboard and pen from him, and neatly scribbled the word "Satisfied" exactly where he indicated.
She looked up, her eyelids still heavy. "By the way, the downstairs security gate has been broken for half a year. When is it getting fixed?"
Mentioning this, the worker immediately started making excuses. "Oh, we're currently upgrading the equipment, so for now, we can't..."
The worker froze as the clipboard was suddenly snatched back out of his hands.
Sienna simply added a "Dis" right in front of "Satisfied" and tossed it back to him.
"Get out."
With a loud slam, the door shut.
