The new manager's leadership skills and experience were entirely on par with his predecessor. He was known for being honest and fiercely competent. It was clearly a calculated, thoroughly vetted decision.
For the very first time, George realized he couldn't use the word 'kid' to describe Jorrod anymore. That level of ruthless efficiency didn't belong to a man his age.
It was also the first time—though George violently hated to admit it—that he found the man genuinely impressive. He couldn't even look away.
Sitting at the dining table, George was still frowning as he processed the events.
No wonder people said hopeless romantics were dangerous. If he were a woman, seeing someone completely decimate his enemies to protect him like that, he would have fallen head over heels.
Thankfully, his daughter wasn't like him.
George knew Sienna perfectly. She wasn't drawn to overly dominant men. She preferred them docile, obedient, and sweet.
Those two traits alone proved Jorrod was the exact opposite of what she wanted.
Even when Sienna was a little girl picking out a puppy, she bypassed the aggressive ones and chose the goofy, obedient one that didn't look entirely smart.
George recounted the entire ordeal to Lillian.
Lillian asked, "Are you going to tell Sienna about this?"
George didn't hesitate. "Jorrod is still obsessed with her. Didn't you hear what I said? When Miles made that comment, Jorrod looked like he was ready to grind his bones into dust. Even if I don't say anything, I guarantee he's going to run straight to Sienna to claim the credit."
That made sense. Lillian nodded. "So you're not going to say anything."
"No, I'm absolutely going to tell her," George corrected. "I'll tell her everything first. That way, when Jorrod tries to brag about it, she won't be caught off guard."
Lillian gave him a knowing look, hiding a smile. "So, even though the factory incident was a misunderstanding, you still don't support them being together. Right?"
It was a definite yes. George explained his reasoning. "I'm incredibly grateful for what he did today. But his personality completely clashes with hers. Jorrod is way too dominant. When he lost his memory, he catered to her every whim, which tricked me into thinking he was just naturally soft-spoken."
Back then, George had actually spent nights lying awake, wondering how someone so subservient could possibly run a massive corporation. How did he ever command a room? Where was his authority?
Today, he got his answer.
Authority wasn't about screaming. It was the terrifying, unspoken power the man carried in his very bones.
George stated firmly, "Sienna will never tolerate a man who tries to control her."
"Except for this face." George touched the bandage on his right cheek. "Honey, you can't start thinking I'm ugly now."
Just as he said that, the little electronic monkey on the front door chimed out, "Welcome!"
